Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. This has a very modern, plush, ripe blueberry, cassis and citrus fresh nose with fine definition and lift. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe opening. The tannins and soft and rounded, although there is good structure underneath and a long, composed finish of generous black cherries, star anis and blueberry. Very fine. Tasted January 2013. (92+ points)

Bright red-ruby. Pure, lively aromas of blackberry and licorice lifted by violet and minerals. Chewy, nicely delineated and ripe but not at all overly sweet, with dark berry flavors firmed by saline minerality. Plenty of tannic support gives this wine good staying power.

Copious aromas of licorice, charcoal, damp earth, black raspberries, black currants and a hint of espresso jump from the glass of this deep purple-colored 2009. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin, plenty of baby fat and a seductive personality, it should drink well for 10-15+ years.

This wine shows interesting aromas of black truffles, berries and earth. Full body, with tangy acidity and a citrus undertone. Lovely fruit and firmness. Structured. Best after 2016.

Robe sombre. Nez assez complexe. En bouche, attaque souple et suave, belle précision du fruits, de la fraîcheur, de la classe, 80 % merlot, 20 % cabernet-franc.

14.5% alcohol. 80M, 20CF Incredibly deep, teeth-staining colour, with lashings of oak and fruit to match, but this is a St Emilion that manages to be elegant despite its power and concentration. The perfume is a violet-scented delight, the tannins are well integrated, the oak is deftly handled and the fruit combines notes of redcurrant, cassis and blackberry with a touch of green pepper. 15+ years.

Ruby-red with purple tinges. Sexy floral lift to the blackcurrant, strawberry and mineral aromas. Moderately sweet and rich, with red and dark fruit flavors complicated by a touch of licorice. Finishes moderately long, with very good vivacity. Not yet especially complex but balanced and fresh.

Under the same ownership as Château Ausone, this is a smoky wine, with fresh tannins and blackcurrant fruit flavors that are bursting from the glass. It is beautifully fresh, with plenty of bright acidity.

Consistently a good value pick among shrewd consumers, this wine, from one of the estates Alain Vauthier owns in St.-Emilion beside the famous Ausone, has a dark purple color, a big, sweet kiss of black currants, raspberries, crushed rock, and floral notes. It is medium to full-bodied, displays good, sweet tannin, and comes across as slightly unevolved and may have just finished malolactic fermentation. I am not so sure it is as strong as his 2005, but this wine is very promising nevertheless. (Tasted once.)

This estate has produced back to back success stories. It looks like it will exceed the fabulous 2008, but not by much. Its color offers a deep ruby-purple followed by irresistible fragrant scents of crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur, blue flower, and graphite dust. A full-bodied, dense and crammed wine that is fully loaded and vibrant thanks to an amazing cherry and blueberry. This beauty offers and opulence of ripe fruit in a concentrated, pure, singular, style. I find this thrilling to drink due to the luxurious personality. Maturity period 2014-2028.

Dense colour, fine nose, very stylish vanilla oak spice, nice freshness, lovely sweetly opulent and concentrated dark cherry fruit quality with fine integrated spicy oak, a sexy modern style, with deliciously succulent and silky sweet tannins and freshness, very fine-boned and juicy, beautifully crafted and showing you its structure by kicking in with a nip of tannin and acidity on the finish.

Bright crimson. Flattering and rich and very very sweet. Taken to the limit of ripeness? Rather hard work on the finish. Not genetle, that's for sure! Really tough and drying on the end. Drink 2018-2028
