Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. Clean ripe black fruits on the nose with raspberry, shoe polish and black olive. Very good lift. Ripe black rounded fruit on the entry, sweet, sappy, red cherry, blueberry and a touch of redcurrant. Citrus edge on the finish. Moderate length. It just lacks excitement or a sense of joie-de-vivre. Tasted October 2009.

Already a Frey production in 2002. A bit dull crimson. Big and bloody and heavy and overripe and over-extracted. Painful. No grace. This seems more par for the course than the much more convincing performance from a sample provided for a blind British Airways tasting in August 2007. Drink 2008-11

Made in a pretty, elegant, fruity, dark ruby-hued style, the 2002 offers notes of allspice, plums, and resin, followed by attractive medium-bodied black cherry and currant flavors. Not a big wine, it is a well-balanced, elegant claret for enjoying over the next 7-8 years.

Another slightly austere red with plum and sweet herb aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, with austere tannins and a slightly dry finish. Same as from barrel. Best after 2006. 14,165 cases made.

In a blind tasting, this might be mistaken for a lighter-styled Pinot Noir. The medium dark ruby color is accompanied by aromas of sweet and sour cherries, and hints of spice, pepper, and new wood. There is moderate density, good fruit, and considerable finesse, but the finish is short. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Robe profonde. Au nez, notes de poivron et de fruits rouges. En bouche, le vin est dense, puissant, avec des tanins sévères et une acidité présente. Equilibre général assez austère.

Moderately saturated ruby red. Aromas of raspberry, bitter chocolate, mocha, espresso and licorice, with a cool minty component. Offers good texture and breadth but the tight, primary flavours come off as a bit tart. Rather austere for young La Lagune, with fresh acids and dust, tongue-coating tannins. Finishes with good mouth coverage and persistence. Will this fille out in barrel?
