Bright medium ruby.  Aromas of blueberry, violet pastille, licorice, tobacco and camphor.  High-pitched, pure and fresh, with the black fruit and violet notes carrying through in the mouth.  Finishes firmly tannic but not hard.  This has good balance for aging.  (An earlier sample, which I rated 87 points, showed aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate, mocha and nutty oak and a chewy, saline quality to its soil-driven dark fruit flavors.  It seemed both more extractive and less vibrant, finishing with building, toothcoating tannins that turned a bit dry with air.)

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine exhibits sweet tannin, medium body and blue and black fruits intermixed with underbrush, licorice, cedar and spice box in a medium-bodied, elegant style with moderate tannin. Forget it for several years and Drink it over the following decade.

I had hoped this wine would show slightly better, as things are clearly on the upswing at this large estate in the Margaux appellation. (The property includes the vineyards of the now-defunct Labegorce-Zede, which have been incorporated into Labegorce.)

Very aromatic with blueberry, mineral and dried mint. Full body, with super velvety texture with wonderful fruit and a balanced finish. Beautiful tannins. So wonderful to taste now but another three or four years will be better. Try in 2016.

Tasted at the UGC tasting in London. The Labégorce is ripe and generous on the voluptuous nose that is still partying like its 2009. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, grippy tannins. There is plenty of tarry fruit that belie what is a firm backbone, whilst the finish demonstrates firm grip and persistency. Excellent. Tasted November 2012.

45% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 7% cabernet franc, 3% petit verdot. Extrem dunkles Purpur. Schwarze Pflaumen, Maulbeeren, Red Currant, Teernoten un sogar Trüffel, sehr tiefgründig. Fleischig-samtner Gaumen, reife Pflaumen, Malztöne, aromatisches, erhabenes Finale. Absolut grossartiger Labégorce - das erste Mal mit dieser hohen Primeurwertung. 2017-2032

2010: This is the debut vintage for consultant Claude Gros and the quality is the finest I have ever tasted from this estate. (Beginning in 2009, the neighboring estate of Labegorce Zede was incorporated into Labegorce.) Made from a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that hit 14% natural alcohol, this sleeper of the vintage reveals a dense purple color in addition to abundant notes of charcoal, spring flowers, black currants and subtle smoky barrique in the background. Medium to full-bodied and ripe with sweet tannin, this beauty should drink nicely for a decade or more. Drink 2011-2021

This violet-scented wine has a wonderful aromatic profile -violets, blackberries and plums. The lifted flavours are followed by layers of flavours that unfold gently on the palate. There is good depth of flavours and nice finish in this classy Margaux. This property has been showing continually improvement in recent years and it is a chateau to watch.

Best ever from here with a blackberry and licorice. Full and velvety with loads going on. Mega.

Beau fruit, généreux, facile, pas ultra complexe mais séducteur, mûr et franc, il devrait plaire au plus grand nombre.

Deep, robust, slightly leathery cassis fruit, good freshness and clarity that gives lift to the natural weight, very satisfying wine. Drink 2015-25. (17 points)

The Labegorce 2010 has a ripe, opulent bouquet of macerated dark cherries, cassis and boysenberry with moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins, good acidity and tension towards the finish with dark cherry, cedar and blueberry. Nice focus and poise. Excellent. Tasted April 2011.

So deep and black and dense! Sweet and thick and creamy. Very flattering indeed but a bit extreme. Demanding, rather jagged tannins on the end. Some tarriness. Very marked tannins. Drink 2020-2030

A dark, plummy, richly fruited style, with black currant, warm fig sauce and dark currant character wrapped with lush dark cocoa and espresso notes, followed by a big, toasty finish. Shows more width than length right now, but there's plenty of stuffing. Should stretch out more. —J.M.
