Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Guiraud has a rich nose of dried honey, orange blossom and buttercup that is nicely defined but does not quite have the intensity of the best Sauternes 05s. The palate is fresh and lithe on the entry, smooth and honeyed both in taste and texture with a long orange zest, vanilla and almond finish that is sensual and persistent. It meliorates in the glass, forages more zest and vitality, so don’t be afraid to aerate/decant this for an hour or two.

Beau confit au nez, sur l'abricot sec et une pointe d'épices. Un ensemble où se dégage de la fraîcheur. De l'onctuosité makgré une légère sensation d'acidité. Un vin tout en courbes à revoir dans quatre ans.

This appears to be the synthesis of the fabulous 2001 and 2003. It shows wonderful aromas of botrytis spice, honey and citrus rind. Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink.

Sous l'adroite direction de Xavier Planty, le château Guiraud offre depuis de nombreuses années, un parfait exemple de grand sauternes moderne, très rôti, très ouvert dès ses premières années, avec un boisé vanillé qui contribue à son opulence. Les derniers millésimes ont donné des vins riches et harmonieux. Le 2005, très fin et d'une grande complexité, rivalisera avec e 2001.

Nez encore sur la réserve aujourd'hui mais qui s'ouvre vite sur des arômes compotés de pomme et de mirablle. Le vin a plus de relief en bouche, plus frais et plus acidulé. Tout cela a besoin de s'organiser avec l'élevage sans doute.

This is back to the great Guiraud I tasted out of barrel. A simple honeyed, butterscotch nose with moderate definition. Opening up in the glass, nice mineral aromas in there, a touch of quince, white flowers, honeysuckle and a touch of quince. Ends up having good definition. The palate is medium-bodied, quite elegant and well poised with good acidity with a minerally, well-crafted honey, crème-brulee and fresh apricot tinged finish. Sophisticated and classy. Drink 2010-2030. Tasted January 2009.

Typical of the huge power of Guiraud, this is one of the richest Sauterns in 2005. The wine is rich and intense, the dry edge of botrytis just dominating the sweetness. Flavours of honey, almonds and peaches give the wine extra complexity.

On ne badine pas avec la pourriture noble à Guiraud. Le dernier vient d'ailleurs d'être racheté. Très typé orange confite, le 2005 fait preuve d'une belle générosité sans lourdeur.

Pêche jaune, pas encore très ouvert au nez. La bouche en revanche est explosive, entre expression pure et complexe du botrytis, qui ajoute des notes truffées aux fruits blancs, et liqueur quasi tannique qui structure le vin. Un vin de très grande garde.
