The 2008 Grand-Pontet is a solidly made effort for the vintage. It came in at 14% natural alcohol and yields were very small (20 hectoliters per hectare). The wine exhibits a deep ruby/plum/garnet color and notes of Christmas fruitcake, underbrush, pepper and spice. It is an intriguingly spicy wine on the palate as well, with medium-bodied flavors, sweet tannin, and then a slight narrowing in the finish which kept my score from going any higher. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2011-2019

From a 35-acre vineyard owned by Sylvie Pourquet, this 2008 was produced from yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare. A blend of 70% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it displays outstanding density as well as sweet, mineral-laced black fruits interwoven with hints of smoke and oak. Full-bodied, pure, and nicely layered with moderate tannin, and very good acidity, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and drink well for 10-15 years.

Les rendements sont historiquement bas à la propriété (20hl/ha). L'assemblage final n'étant pas déterminé lors de notre visite à la propriété, nous avons dégusté une série de lots à la barrique. Les merlots possèdent un joli volume de bouche, avec des tanins amples, mais soyeux. L'élégance viendra des cabernets à la minéralité affirmée. A revoir après assemblage.

La couleur est belle, intense et jeune. Nez aromatique, fruité, pur, crémeux et assez noble. L'entrée en bouche est ravissante de par sa précision de texture. Le vin se développe aromatique, juteux, savoureux avec du goût et une permanence de la douceur. C'est délicieux, présent et aérien à la fois. Un style induit par la qualité de l'assemblage composé de 25 % de cabernet franc.
