Dark plum/garnet, this elegant, medium to full-bodied, beguiling, seductive 2008 is a sleeper of the vintage. Round and silky-smooth with lovely black cherry and black currant fruit imbued with touches of smoke, herbs and earth, this relatively evolved effort is best consumed over the next 15-17 years. Drink 2011-2028

This has a tame bouquet at first, unwinding nicely with aeration to reveal earthy black fruits stuck through with graphite and a touch of sage. The palate is well balanced with a citric thread of acidity on the entre, firm tannins, very focused and more masculine than usual. This is showing better than out of barrel with good persistency on the tobacco-tinged finish and it should improve with bottle age. Drink 2013-2025.

This is better than the disappointing sample at primeur. It has a ripe, clean, crisp nose with blackberry, boysenberry, wild hedgerow and just a hint of caramel. The palate is medium-bodied, slightly lower in acidity than a would like, expresive and rounded with the acidity just poking through on the finish. It still seems very disjointed with an edgy finish.

Dunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, zarter Wasserrand.

O=2018 G=20 ans

This estate has produced a charming wine to consume over the next 10-14 years. It exposes an opaque ruby, color along with plum/mulberry scents, flower, and wet-stone notes. A simple mouth-feel, plenty of texture and suppleness, a medium-body, and quite the open-knit, generously styled fruit of deep plum and cherry. Showing ripe tannin with nothing out of place or edgy. Certainly a fresh and pure Giscours that will be open and tasty upon its debut.

Bright, full ruby. Rather Burgundian aromas of raspberry, black cherry and flowers, nicely lifted by sweet spices. Juicy, fine and light on its feet, with lovely lift to the red cherry and plum flavors provided by a pretty floral element that lingers on the spicy aftertaste. Very smooth and well-balanced, but perhaps a touch short for outstanding. My guess is that it will gain in flesh in bottle and ultimately merit a score at the high end of my projected range. (Tasted three times, with one bottle meriting only an 85 score.)

Dunkles, dichtes Purpur, lila Rand. Delikates Bouquet, viel Frucht, reife Himbeeren, Kirschen und rote Pflaumen, feingliedrig, mit sublimer Fülle. Cremiger Gaumen, frischfruchtig, sehr stoffig, ausgeglichene Adstringenz. Toller Giscours, wie eine Mischung aus 2000 mit 2001. 2018 – 2034

Giscours, made by the same winemaking team that makes Du Tertre (which did not show well in my tastings), reveals sweet tannins and overall far superior quality, which makes me think Du Tertre will improve with time in barrel. The sexy, opulent 2008 Giscours exhibits plenty of dark fruit, forest floor, and earthy notes, sweet, velvety tannin, and good fresh acids. This medium to full-bodied effort should prove to be outstanding with more time.

Healthy crimson. Already quite complex, seductive aromas. Fresh start with real spring in its step – energetic and lively and very well balanced yet with real intrigue still to be revealed. Good wine. Neat finish. Tightly packed. Limpid – wonderful confidence! Drink 2014-27

This is lacking some fruit intensity on the nose: woody, some dried herbs, touch of cedar. Sharp entry on the palate, which is lacking cohesion. Some oaky black fruits on one side, a dry, hollowness on the other. Does not meld together. This is perplexing given the quality of du Tertre. Tasted April 2009. 83-85? points

Black-red, very expressive blackcurrant nose, almost crème de cassis without the sweetness, good slightly earthy fruit, palate more subdued than the nose, has class and length. Drink 2014-20. 16+
