This is linear and tight with black truffle, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Medium body and compressed. Lovely now.

Bright red-ruby. Inky blueberry, licorice, leather and herbs on the nose, complicated by notes of crushed stone and mint. Offers good breadth and a light touch but only moderate stuffing, showing a distinctly cool, green quality to the leanish middle palate. Finishes with firm, slightly medicinal tannins.

This elegant, forward, evolved, medium-bodied effort exhibits lots of Christmas fruitcake, licorice, spice box, and black cherry fruit along with a lush, silky mid-palate, and ripe tannins. The final blend was 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Consume it over the next decade.... Drink 2010-2020

Peppery, herbaceous, smooth and rather slight but well balanced on the palate. Finishes a touch dry. Drink 2012-16

Medium ruby. Slightly green aromas of black cherry, blackberry, mocha, menthol and licorice. Supple, juicy and on the dry side, with a faint medicinal quality and modest flesh; a tad flat in the middle. A fairly light, moderately ripe wine, finishing with dusty tannins and a coolness.

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, fast opaker Kern, violette Reflexe.

Bonnes promesses

This is lacking some vigour on the nose with faint hints of blackberry, raspberry and smoke. Moderate definition. The palate is better, some pure black cherry fruits, saturated tannins but lacking some finesse and delineation towards the finish. Better than I expected but a little overdone. Tasted April 2008.

Deep crimson. Discreet but well balanced nose. Looks very youthful crimson though not especially concentrated. Very mild. Well balanced and not forced. Good fruit and the tannins are fresh without being green. Well done, though not overly ambitious.

Minerally, discreet. There's a body of wine here and length on the finish but the wine misses a little depth and panache. Drink 2012-2020.

Aromas of tar and berry, with hints of tobacco. Medium-to-full body, chewy tannins and a slightly short and austere finish. —J.S.
