Chateau la Dominique - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2015

The particularity of this vintage is based on climatic conditions from April to June remarkable. After a rather classic winter (a little rain, temperatures in the normal season), the spring opens on an exceptional month of April, with temperatures already summer (April 13, 28 ° C at La Dominica) who run until May 1st. This very early summer, which will crescendo until July, promotes a rapid and homogeneous flowering. The month of July is unprecedented: the heat (10 to 15 consecutive days at 35 ° C), combined with a characteristic drought (24 mm fell over the whole month of July), cause a significant water stress. The deep rooting of our vines and the water regulation of our clay soils are a considerable asset in this context of pronounced dryness. The work of restructuring our vineyard is bearing fruit this year more than ever, and allows us to cross this period with great serenity.

Nez de cassis, fruits noirs. Belle intensité fruitée. Bouche à la très jolie dynamique fruitée. Finale fraîche, bien découpée, un peu boisée à ce stade.

Combining smoke, tobacco, flowers, black raspberries, wild cherries and earthy notes in the nose, this wine is concentrated with lush, sweet, fat, juicy fruits with an extremely pleasant sense of purity of fruit that feels delightful on your palate. There is a strong depth of flavor with black cherries, licorice and chocolate in the finish. This is the best vintage produced from La Dominique yet. From a blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine reached 14% alcohol. The harvest took place from September 18 to October 7.

The 2015 La Dominique is a blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that was picked between September 18 and October 7 at 38 hectoliters per hectare; 10% went through "vinification intégrale" and then it was matured in 60% new oak. It has a very deep inky color. The bouquet is well-defined but broody at the moment, with blackcurrant, blueberry and even graphite scents, the latter deriving from the Cabernet component of the blend. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin on the entry. This errs towards black rather than red fruit, specifically black cherries and a touch of boysenberry. There is quite a rigid structure packed in behind the fruit, the spicy finish showing just a little more finesse than recent vintages. Although, I feel there is still some way to go in terms of reaching the full potential of the vineyard.

Tannin superbe et fin, magnifique de fraîcheur mentholée. Très grande réussite, à la hauteur du potentiel du cru et de la réussite globale du secteur. Très coloré, épicé et puissant, notes de mûres, allonge généreuse, volume distingué.

Dense, ripe and full. Dark fruit and spice notes with a touch of creamy oak. Generous fruit on the mid-palate. Powerful and driving on the finish. Good length and tension. Harmonious.

The 201 5 La Dominique is bold, vibrant and full of energy. A host of blue/black fruits, crème de cassis, mocha, violets, licorice, plums, menthol and smoke race out of the glass. Although quite bold, powerful and racy, the 2015 also has more than enough tannic backbone to balance some of the more overt elements. This is a first class effort from La Dominique.

Good freshness on the nose. Lively. A success in 2015.

92–94. Barrel Sample. This wine has powerful tannins and a tough texture. The fruit at the back shows blackberry flavor that's lifted by fine acidity. As it integrates better, it should be a rich and dense wine.

85 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 13 % Cabernet Franc, 2 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 18/20 2022 – 2038

This has crazy concentration of stone, blueberry and blackberry character. Full body, yet racy and toned. Exciting. Pushing the envelope here.

A toasty, fleshy style, with a broad swath of fig and blackberry paste flavors melded with dark ganache accents and a heavy tobacco note. A bit obvious in style, but this has range and length.—J.M.
