The 2018 Croizet-Bages has a perfectly satisfying bouquet of blackberry, briar and light graphite aromas. This is better than many recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and fine acidity, and a bit rough on the finish, but to give it its due, this oft-maligned estate has produced a fine 2018 that I look forward to re-tasting in bottle.

This wine continues a good run for Croizet Bages with the depth and persistency you want from a Pauillac estate. It’s enjoyable and well put together with high levels of freshness and tannins that are evident without being overpowering.
It’s not quite at the 2016 level for me, and has less complexity than some in 2018, but I’ve tasted on several occasions always with the same positive impression - it’s very good.
While it’s a little subdued right now, I upped the score of the 2016 when tasting in bottle so it may be that it just needs a little time to bed down over ageing. 50% new oak used.

The 2018 Croizet-Bages is dark, powerful and also a touch rustic, although certainly not lacking in personality. Black cherry, cloves, spice, menthol and licorice add to an impression of virile power. The oak needs time to integrate, but that should not be an issue over time.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Croizet Bages gives up vibrant notes of crushed red and black currants, Morello cherries and baked raspberries with touches of tobacco, dried herbs and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with generous red and black fruit preserves, supported by firm, grainy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing with an invigorating herbal lift.
