Le Point / byJacques Dupontthe6/20/2018 Nez riche, note d’épices, fruité très pur, juteux, profond, tout en longueur, élevage élégant, finale sèche, nette, tanins fermes, serrés, élégants, bonne constitution, droit et racé.
Jeb DUNNUCK 88-90 / 100 byJeb Dunnuckthe6/12/2018 Inky-colored, with a firm yet concentrated, edgy style, the 2017 Château Cos Labory offers plenty of graphite, toasty oak, violets, and assorted dark fruits. I’d love to see a touch more baby fat and texture on all this structure, but it’s nicely concentrated and certainly has potential.
Vinifera 90 / 100 byJacques Perrinthe5/28/2018 Peu intense au nez, il offre une bouche tannique, encore peu avancée mais garnie de tanins sérieux et qui s’affineront durant l’élevage.
Vinous 89-92 / 100 byAntonio Gallonithe5/15/2018 The 2017 Cos Labory is laced with inky blue/purplish fruit, gravel, smoke, licorice, lavender and crushed rocks. This is the first vintage to incorporate a dollop (5%) of Petit Verdot, which seems to add attractive elements of darkness and savoriness. Proprietor Bernard Audoy adds that harvest was over by October 2, which is earlier than the first day of harvest in 2016.
The Wine Cellar Insider 88-90 / 100 byJeff Levethe5/11/2018 A medium bodied, forward, classic styled wine with an easy going, fresh, red berry character that will drink well with just a few years of age.
Vinous 90-92 / 100 byNeal Martinthe5/1/2018 The 2017 Cos-Labory has a commendable bouquet with clean, crisp aromas of blackberry, smoke and light tobacco scents. There is no greenness here, a trait that can spoil some vintages of this Saint-Estèphe. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, plenty of ripe brambly black fruit with a sense of mineralité on the finish. Hey...is this the moment when Cos-Labory produces a great wine? Looks that way here. I look forward to re-tasting this once in bottle and will keep my fingers crossed.
Wine Advocate 90-92 / 100 byLisa Perrotti-Brownthe4/27/2018 The 2017 Cos Labory is deep garnet-purple colored and scented of blackberry pie, cassis and pencil shavings with touches of violets, garrigue and mossy bark. Medium to full-bodied with a firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, it has lovely freshness and impressive length.
Decanter.com 90 / 100 byJane Ansonthe4/25/2018 Tight, intense dark fruits and good weight are joined by bristling tannins. 50% new oak shows a little more than is strictly necessary, but it should settle in over the next few years - be sure to give it 5 to 6 years before opening.Drinking Window 2023 - 2034
17/20 2023 - 2040
Wine Enthusiast 91-93 / 100 byRoger Vossthe4/17/2018 Bold tannins mark this dense wine, though it has plenty of ripe black fruit to balance. It's a wine that is set for medium-term aging. Spice, ripe berry flavors and acidity are coming together well. Drink from 2023.
Jamessuckling.com 90-91 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe4/6/2018 Rather sophisticated for the vintage, this is velvety and linear with fresh acidity, firm tannins and a juicy finish.
