Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château, the 2002 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 6% Cabernet France matured in 70% new French oak. It is clean and fresh on the nose: blackberry, tobacco and gravel notes emerging nicely from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple blackberry and strawberry fruit, that tincture of tobacco coming through towards the conservative, but fresh finish. The 2002 is maturing in commendable fashion and whilst it will not soar towards the heavens, it should continue to drink well for several years. Tasted April 2015.

Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. I can only assume that there was something faulty with my previous bottle of Brane-Cantenac ’02 three years ago, because of its impressive performance blind. A very elegant refined nose: lovely definition and purity of fruit, hints of orange peel and apricot, then oyster shell. Ripe tannins on the palate, good fruit intensity, symmetrical, poised, black cherry and raspberry and cranberry on the finish. Excellent! Tasted October 2009.

Comme son père Lucien, Henri Lurton est un fervent défenseur de l'esprit du margaux. Ce vin aux tannins soyeux l'atteste par son équilibre et sa recherche de l'élégance. Cette dernière se lit au bouquet qui révèle une entente harmonieuse entre un bois de qualité et le fruit.

De la douceur et du velouté pour ce splendide 2002 qui ne manque pas de puissance, de matière et d'élégance. La robe grenat profond est brillante et chatoyante. Le nez très aromatique avec des notes de vanille et de bois exotique s'ouvre sur un fruité resplendissant. En second nez, des notes plus goboyeuses, fumées. Le boisé est encore très présent et doit se fondre sur une matière qui ne manquera pas de l'intégrer

Notes of damp earth, composty, leafy vegetation and sweet currants, plums, and cherries in addition to some licorice jump from the glass of this evolved, deep ruby-colored wine that shows medium body, excellent concentration, an elegant but pure style, and nice texture and length. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.

This has a lot going on in the bottle with currants, sweet tobacco and berry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins. A bit firm but it's there. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2009. 13,330 cases made.
