Under the same ownership as Château la Dominique in Saint-Émilion, Clément-Pichon has produced a richly juicy 2012. Firm structure underlies the generous fruits, while the acidity and the dry core of tannins promise good aging. Drink from 2017.

This property sits on the southern end of the Médoc and is the magnificent estate of the Fayat family. They have produced a very solid Bordeaux for a number of years. There is no doubt a good dosage of Merlot in this wine, given its juicy blackcurrant fruit, deep ruby/purple color and spice. It is supple, round, not terribly complex or that deep, but a competent example of 2012 to drink over the next 7-10 years.

Lots of blackberry and mineral character. Full body, dark fruit and a medium finish. Could use a little more fruit on the mid-palate but this is well done. Drink now.

Modest raspberry and mulled red currant fruit flavors are lined with light, savory echoes of pepper, with a twinge of earth on the finish. Noticeably lighter than when tasted from barrel. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 8,300 cases made.

There is evidence of over-egged, over-macerated dark plum fruit on the nose of the Clement-Pichon. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy ripe black fruit, low acidity and a rather oaky finish that is missing some freshness. It just seems rather overdone. Tasted April 2013.
