Château Carbonnieux, a Classified Growth both red and white

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest and largest estates in the Bordeaux vineyard. Its lands have continuously borne vines since the 13th century. Its imposing architecture from the Middle Ages surprises with its simplicity and style. As the first owners and skilled traders, the Benedictine monks of the Sainte Croix Abbey in Bordeaux early on established an international reputation for both white and red wines.

The estate obtained the status of Grand Cru Classé in Graves in 1953. It is among the 6 properties classified for both red and white wines, but it is the only one that, thanks to its diversified terroir, possesses an equivalent-sized vineyard for both reds (50ha) and whites (42ha). Carbonnieux has been owned by the Perrin family for three generations. Today, Eric and Philibert lead the estate, supported by two of Eric's children, Marc and Andréa.

Weather conditions

The 2023 vintage experienced normal weather conditions, with budbreak in late March and a hot spring. The flowering was successful thanks to favorable summer conditions, but a high pressure of diseases and pests required increased vigilance from the winemakers. Summer precipitation was moderate, followed by heatwave temperatures that promoted optimal ripening. The harvest took place from August 24th to the beginning of October.
