Dunkles Granat, deutlicher erster Reiferand.

Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. An intriguing bouquet: black brambly fruit, dried blood, underbrush and a touch of soy (that has been noted in previously bottles.) Part of me wants to say it is faulty, but it has character. The palate is full-bodied, ripe, good fruit intensity, leathery and animally. Not dissimilar to the style of Gruaud-Larose. Perhaps there is a touch of brett here, but good length and persistency. Difficult to see where this will go. Tasted October 2009.

Rich chestnuts on the nose. Unusual. A little bit tarty but lots of impact! Drink 2010-18

The successful 2002 exhibits a beautiful, dense ruby/purple color, a lovely concoction of raspberries, cassis, flowers and licorice in the fragrant aromatics, medium to full body, surprising opulence for a 2002, and soft and supple tannin. A beauty, it is ideal for drinking now and over the next 15+ years.

Aromas of blackberries and licorice follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with a good core of fruit and tannins. Smoky oak on the finish. Very nice indeed. Best after 2008. 12,500 cases made.

A precise, impressively endowed yet irrefutably elegant St.-Julien, Branaire’s 2002 boasts a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to a beautiful bouquet of flowers intertwined with creme de cassis, cranberries, and notions of raspberries, mocha, and chocolate. It possesses serious depth, medium to full body, and moderately high, but well-integrated tannin. Cellar this beauty for 3-4 years and consume it over the following 15-18.

Nez subtile, bouche souple et délicate, dotée d'une texture fine et de tanins élégants. L'alliance du classique et de l'élégance.
