Baronarques Rouge - Limoux 2021
The estate
Domaine de Baronarques is situated in Languedoc, near Limoux, within the town of Saint-Polycarpe. Although acquired by the Rothschild family in 1998, the property's ancient origins date back to 780.
The estate is nestled on a piedmont and spans 110 hectares in a contiguous plot, of which 43 hectares are under vines. Positioned 400 km from the Atlantic Ocean and 100 km from the Mediterranean, the vineyard is influenced by both of these climatic factors, ensuring it receives ample sunlight and well-balanced rainfall. Thanks to its proximity to the Pyrenees, the parcels' altitudes, ranging from 250 to 350 meters, temper the intensity of summer heat. The soil composition is predominantly clay-limestone, with a few parcels displaying gravelly and sandy characteristics.

The 2021 vintage
Weather conditionsAn unusually mild and dry winter. Warm weather in early spring was followed by a north-easterly cold spell at the beginning of April. Hot and damp weather set in during the last fortnight of June and continued until mid-July. Despite a heatwave, regular light rain and damp mornings until the end of the month meant that July was cooler than the average. Temperatures in August were also lower than normal, with regular rainfall that staggered the ripening process over time.
Tasting notesDeep red with a crimson hue. The complex and refined nose reveals blackcurrant and bilberry aromas mingled with delicate spice notes tending towards vanilla. The smooth and elegant attack leads into a harmonious and precise midpalate, emphasised by an attractive freshness and a structure of wellintegrated tannins combined with a silky texture, culminating in a long and nicely balanced finish that lingers on liquorice and chocolate flavours.
