Almaviva - Vina Almaviva - Chile 2008

The 2008 vintage was marked by atypical weather conditions. The winter was particularly cold and dry, one of the coldest of the last forty years, and one of the driest also with only 146mm of rain between June and September in Puento Alto and 250mm on Peumo. The budburst, homogeneous, was late, occurring ten days later than usual. The spring, rather cold at first, was then hot from the end of October. From December to March, maximum temperatures were considerably higher during the day, higher than seasonal norms, with a strong thermal amplitude between day and night. A cooling of temperatures in April, however, slowed the ripening of the grapes. The harvests, slow and late, finally spread between April 21 and May 22 in Puento Alto and between May 13 and 17 for Carmenère de Peumo. The low yields of the vineyard (between 20 and 45 hl / ha) have resulted in superb fruit quality, purity, character and exceptional balance. Aged 18 months in new French oak barrels.
