The 2021 Rouget has come together beautifully. Bold, juicy and expressive, the 2021 possesses notable palate presence and forward appeal. An unusually rich, demonstrative wine for the vintage, the 2021 Rouget exhibits aromas of crème de cassis, raspberry liqueur and cherry preserve, framed by toasty oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a sweet, somewhat confectionery core of fruit framed by structuring barrel tannins.

There is the most beautiful perfume here, and it comes, in part, from the inclusion of 35% whole bunches. This makes Rouget smell and taste like a cross between a Pomerol and a sultry, sexy red Burgundy! The Labruyère family’s roots are in Beaujolais. They also own Domaines Jacques Prieur, so it is no surprise that in a vintage with beautiful purity of Merlot fruit and transcendent silkiness, the temptation to use whole bunches was just too good to resist. There is no doubt this Château is going places, and with a glorious perfume and a stunningly delicious palate, this is one of the most intriguing and noteworthy wines of the vintage. 18+

Lots of red and blue fruits as well as spice and flowery incense notes emerge from the 2021 Château Rouget, a medium-bodied, up-front, fruit-forward, undeniably delicious Pomerol that shines in the vintage. It should drink nicely in its youth yet also evolve gracefully.

The 2021 Rouget, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, has a well-defined bouquet of vivacious red fruit, plus touches of black truffle and incense; the oak here is nicely integrated. The medium-bodied palate offers black fruit laced with licorice on the entry, along with modest depth and fine acidity. Quite structured on the back end, showing a touch of sour cherry mixed with allspice on the aftertaste. Maybe it is just missing some precision, but this has more presence than some of its Pomerol peers, and a couple of edges will be abraded during élevage.

Kräftiges Purpur. Betörende Nase, eine kleine Droge, Kräuter, Blüten, Brombeere, Pflaume, das ist wunderbar zu schnüffeln. Im Gaumen cremig und weich zum Auftakt, dann packt die Struktur zu, die Frucht hält dagegen, wunderbar knackig und fast schon burgundisch im Charakter baut sich der Wein im mittleren Gaumen auf und hallt im Abgang auf diese ungemein knackige Frucht nach. Sehr gelungen. 2025-2040 (Verkostet im April 2022. UGCB)

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Rouget offers up aromas of sweet berries, cherries, licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's impressively concentrated, with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and lively acids. A success in this challenging vintage, in recent years Rouget has benefited from the acquisition of some small parcels on the plateau (in the Clinet sector and near Le Pin), as well as the relegation of the less propitious parts of its historic vineyard to a second wine. Anyone who has tasted the great Rouget wines of yesteryear such as the famous 1961 will know what this estate is capable of, and the Labruyère family is working hard to realize its potential. Richly perfumed on the nose, floral scented and vibrant. This has a nice texture, soft and smooth yet tannins grip the mouth and sides of the cheeks and have that slate, liquorice, crushed stone and graphite edge from the terroir. It's quite linear and focused, not moving so much from its vein of black fruit and minerality but it feels well worked with persistence and a long finish. A touch of salinity at the end is also great. I love the styling on this and will be great in a few years. Tasted four times.
