The 2021 certainly has enough depth to drink well for many years. Dark plum, spice, leather, mocha and well-judged oak inform a wine that is all about balance and proportion.

The 2021 Le Gay offers up aromas of minty cherries and berries framed by sweet new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad and front-loaded attack that starts strong, before falling off short on the abrupt, discreetly mordant finish.

An excellent wine for the vintage, showing great complexity and some depth. Fine spices, cocoa powder, fresh herbs, white pepper, blueberries and plums. Refined and juicy on the medium- to full-bodied palate imbued with silky, polished tannins and a refined, lengthy finish. Shows class. Drinkable now, but better in 2025 and onwards.

Juicy and direct, with a fan-friendly core of blackberry paste and licorice notes lined with briar accents. Reveals a singed alder backdrop, with touches of warm earth on the finish providing added range and grip. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2035. 1,575 cases made.  –JM

Distingué, floral et épicé, ce vin est bien dans le millésime, son attaque suave se poursuit dans une bouche qui a juste ce qu’il faut de concentration par rapport à son fruit. Belle longueur avec une fin fraîche et assise.

The 2021 Le Gay is far superior on the nose compared to the Deuxième Vin, much more blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of iris flower and sage, though obviously less precocious than the last three vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, saline on the front palate with fine delineation towards the composed finish. This is a well-executed Le Gay that just lacks a bit of substance.

Bouquet possédant des arômes de fruits frais, de cassis, de réglisse avec une pointe florale. Bouche juteuse et fraiche, un bel enrobage avec une pointe boisée qui reste élégante sur l'allonge mais finit un peu sèche en finale. A revoir après les élevages.

The 2021 Le Gay offers up aromas of cherries and berries mingled with aromas of mint, vanilla pod and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's rich and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by plenty of extract and oak tannin. It's entirely fermented in new barrels, which has become one of the estate's signatures.

Scented raspberries and cherries with soft floral touches on the nose. A gentle succulence but here the minerality - liquorice, slate and clove are at the very fore, they coat the mouth with robust tannins that are a little harsh and firm at the moment. I do like the overall mouthfeel at the beginning, this has character and is quite serious in its fleshy structure. Well worked with a youthful charm that will benefit from ageing.
