This has power in reserve, but stays remarkably restrained for now, with a torrent of boysenberry, fig and raspberry fruit held in check by charcoal-studded grip and well-embedded acidity. The long, dense smoked apple wood finish should let this cruise nicely in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. –JM

The 2010 is good example of this wine, which has tended to be somewhat light and often diluted in the past, but things seem to be looking up at La Pointe. Generously fruity, its loads of cherry, strawberry and mulberry notes, along with subtle loamy soil scents and a hint of underbrush are followed by a spicy, earthy, medium-bodied wine with soft tannins as well as excellent fruit and texture. Drink it over the next decade.

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The La Pointe 2010 has a well-defined, very classic Pomerol bouquet with fine delineation and poise: blackberry, black truffle, smoke and a slight ferrous note. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, ripe and quite bold tannins that lend this Pomerol real backbone. It builds in the mouth to a lovely black truffle and graphite-tinged finish that sits comfortable between Pomerol and Pauillac in style. This is an excellent wine from “L’Equipe Monnoret”. 2010: The 2010 is a strong effort from this historically underachieving Pomerol thanks in part to the owners hiring well-known consultant Hubert de Bouard. A blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc that hit 14% natural alcohol reveals copious notes of sweet caramel, smoke, black cherry liqueur, Asian plum sauce and subtle background oak. Opaque ruby/purple-colored, medium to full-bodied and well-endowed it should drink nicely for 10-15+ years. Drink 2011-2026

This deep ruby purple coloured La Point has gorgeous aromatics and lovely texture. Flavours of ripe blackberries and plums are enhanced by spices and cedar notes. A fabulous wine that is complete even at this very young stage of its life - flamboyant spices and mouthfilling ripe fruits are supported by firm acidity and generous tannins. This will no doubt be one of the great value Pomerols of 2010.
