Bright red-ruby. Aromas of roasted plum, currant, blackberry and tar are lifted by a floral topnote and complicated by a whiff of leather. Sweet, silky and densely packed, with impressive thickness of texture leavened by good inner-mouth energy and florality. Fine-grained and very nicely delineated. Finishes long and ripely tannic, with lingering flavors of crushed blackberry, plum, chocolate and minerals. As of this vintage, Labegorce now includes the vines from Labegorce-Zede; new proprietor Hubert Perrodo re-unified these two properties in late 2005, shortly before his death in a skiing accident in late 2006.

This has dark fruit, but comes off as sleek, with cassis, plum eau de vie, blackberry paste and fig sauce notes all seamlessly held together by light toasty structure. Drink now through 2019. 14,000 cases made. –JM

Showing vastly superior from bottle than it did from cask, Labegorce’s 2009 comes from a property that now includes the former estate Labegorce-Zede, which has been absorbed completely into this attractive vineyard just to the north of Chateau Margaux. They have excelled in this vintage. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of creosote, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit, this is a rich, medium to full-bodied wine with loads of character and depth. It is usually one of the better values of Bordeaux and it certainly stands out as a major sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025.

Dark ruby-red. Aromatic nose shows very ripe raspberry and red cherry scents complicated by mint and bay leaf. Fresh and clean, with juicy red fruit flavors of moderate intensity. Though initially suave and light on its feet, offering attractive sweetness and good overall balance, this finishes with slightly astringent tannins. Not the last word in complexity or aging potential, but a successful wine that should offer considerable early drinking appeal. Incidentally, Chateau Labegorce-Zede, under the same ownership as Labegorce, has now been fused with the latter property. There is now a new second wine called Zede de Labegorce.

Robe très sombre. Nez intense, cassis et épices. En bouche, l’attaque est souple, le milieu de bouche un peu fluide, l’ensemble est charmant, de demi-corps, assez frais en finale. Belle matière dense, long, assez tannique.

Il n'y a désormais plus qu'un seul Labégorce, issu de la fusion de Labégorce et Labégorce Zédé. Le 2009 possède une très belle énergie, avec de la structure et un beau fruit large en bouche. La finale se prolonge sur des notes de fruits frais, avec des tanins d'une belle élégance.

Kräuterwürze, zart nach Dörrobst, vegetale Nuancen, rauchige Note. Mittlere Komplexität, zarte Kirschfrucht, etwas spröde Tannine, noch eher verhalten, zart adstringent im Finish, nicht überzeugend.

Tasted at Vintex. The Labegorce ’09 has a succulent bouquet with macerated black cherries, blueberry and a touch of violets. Moderate definition, perhaps just a little smudged. The palate has a citric entry, good acidity here cutting through those dense black, tarry fruit, leading to a delineated but strictly linear, tobacco tinged finish. Tasted March 2010.

Von 90 000 Flaschen auf 150 000, da man sich dazu entschlossen hat, den zum gleichen Besitz gehörenden Labégorce-Zédé nicht mehr unter eigenem Etikett zu füllen, sondern dem Labégorce einzuverleiben. Sattes Purpur- Granat. Tiefgründiges, florales Würzbouquet mit aromatischer Cabernet-Note, ausserdem Tabak- und Trüffelnuancen. Fleischiger Gaumen, fein stützende Muskeln, sehr klassisch und charaktervoll, lagerfähig. 2015–2030

Things are improving at this estate since it absorbed Labegorce-Zede, but this is not a 2009 that demands attention. It is a solidly made, dark ruby-hued, supple, smooth effort with a touch of greenness. Drink it during its first 8-9 years of life. (Tasted two times.) Drink 2010-2019.

Dark blackish ruby. Fragrant and natural on the nose. Sweet and mellow. Nicely done. A little tension on the finish. Not pushed to excess. This could be from a terroir that is less favoured usually but one that is benefiting from 2009 overdrive. May not last as long as some. Very, very slightly light. Drink 2016-2026
