Vérité La Muse, a generous Merlot-driven wine

The wines of Vérité, French for “truth,” are the result of a combination of old-world experience and new world fruit. Jess Jackson (1930–2011) was already the founder of one of the most successful family-owned wine companies in the United States when he met Pierre Seillan during a visit to France in the 1990s. When Pierre Seillan visited California in 1997, he too saw the potential and did not hesitate when Jackson asked him to come to Sonoma County to realize this dream together. And so, Vérité was born.

Merlot-dominant La Muse delivers incredible depth and texture using the finest grape sources from the top micro-crus of eastern Sonoma County. La Muse was first produced in 1998 and was inspired by the finest wines of Pomerol. Vigneron Pierre Seillan tends to a mosaic of more than fifty micro-crus to produce the complex signature of La Muse.

2019 La Muse shimmers with a deep violet-ruby core of color, expressing opulent fruit aromas of candied red & black cherry, and wild fresh blackberry, with perfumed notes of dried potpourri, dried rosemary, and essences of sandalwood, toasted cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove from French oak aging. The palate perfectly mirrors the nose, along with tannins reminiscent of dark cocoa nib, bright acidity, and petrichor minerality, all of which work to balance the supple texture of this wine, driving to a very long finish.”

Frais et délicat avec un beau nez d'épices et une trame boisée élégante, La Muse offre une bouche ronde et dense avec une fraicheur aérienne en finale. Très belle empreinte aromatique et superbe sensation calcaire en finale. 90 % de merlot, 5 % de cabernet franc et 5 % de malbec.

The 2019 La Muse offers a luxurious and layered perfume of red apple, sweet tobacco, and fresh leather. The palate is generous, with velveteen texture, noes of cassis, violets, and fresh earth, and a weightless feel. The most open of the three presented by Verite, this is an incredible wine and will be fantastic to check in on over the next two or more decades.

The 2019 La Muse is a blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc and 5% Malbec. Deep ruby-purple, it explodes with cassis, violets and aniseed, with wafts of thyme, tobacco and iron, offering new nuances with each return to the glass. The full-bodied palate is powerful and refined, with loads of rounded tannins, focused freshness and ethereal character. It's exceptionally expressive and structured and should be very long lived in the cellar.

Smooth and well defined, this Merlot-dominant wine has a nice delicacy to it. Lifted and bright, there is a sense of joy to this with excellent detail and definition to the fruit and the fine tannins. Clearly powerful with concentration but well delivered. I like the liquorice and the subtle herbal spiced edges - rosemary and cinnamon giving nuance as well as the slightly sweet but supple red and black cherry and blueberries fruit which mingle with scented dried flower notes. A refined style with a lifted finish that is really enjoyable. Ageing 16 months in French oak (95% new).

Merlot dominant, full of concentrated but crunchy blue and black fruits, a ton of concentration and tannic heft, with undergrowth, smoked earth, aniseed and fennel on the finish. Great stuff. Pierre Seillan winemaker.

The 2019 La Muse is a blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it skips out of the glass with bright scents of freshly crushed black and red plums, boysenberries, and Morello cherries, plus hints of garrigue, cedar chest, wet slate, and truffles plus a waft of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is super intense and firm with a solid wall of ripe tannins and compelling freshness holding up a ton of expressive earth and black fruit layers, finishing with epic length. 2,500 cases were made.

Blueberries, blackberries and crushed stones. Pure fruit. Full-bodied with round tannins that have powdery character. Creamy and round mouth-feel. Very unique. Great finish. 90% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% malbec. Best from 2026.
