Floral, yes, but less vibrantly so than either the 2012 or the 2019. This is also a little more taut and a little more closed – it’s calling for your decanter, your best glassware and a little of your patience! The Cabernet Franc is rather more leafy than immediately floral – though there is a subtle hint of rose petal – and that seems to accentuate and underscore the plump juicy dark berry notes. There’s a little wild lavender and rosemary too and, of course, a touch of cedar. On the palate this unfurls at a glacial pace and has the most sublime crystalline clarity and precision – a mirror pool of cool Cabernet excellence. As that implies, this is fantastically fresh and gorgeously understated. Decant or hold a little longer, a wine to venerate.

Lively crimson. Smells very rich and aromatic in the camphor spectrum. Sweet start and the tannins are particularly well managed. Creamy texture and the flavour is even slightly buttery. Clean, non-hot finish. Drink 2018-2026

A blend of 64% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Malbec, the very deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Le Désir is a little reticent at this very youthful stage, offering glimpses at dusty soil, iron ore, black truffles and salami notes over a core of red currant jelly, black raspberries, blackberries and star anise plus a waft of roses. Medium-bodied, very firm and very elegant yet incredibly intense in the mouth, it delivers loads of red fruit and earthy layers, finishing with great length and depth. 2,500 cases produced.

Love the aromas of black cherries and blackberries, violets and roses. Stunning. Full-bodied, layered and dense with focus and precision. Full tannins, yet compressed and polished. A great cabernet franc-based red. Give this four to five years of bottle age before drinking but already beautiful to taste.

The 2015 Le Désir brings together striking aromatic lift from the Cabernet Franc with the dark, sumptuous fruit of the year. Chocolate, mocha, plum, licorice, crème de cassis and pencil shavings add striking aromatic nuance. This is a dazzling wine from the Seillan family.

Seillan said that 2015 (which was still in barrel at the time of my tasting) was the finest vintage of his lifetime, which is strong praise indeed. Certainly, he has three titanic wines aging in the wine cellars. If you want to taste something that is like Château Ausone on steroids, check out the 2015 Le Désir, a blend of 64% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. This huge, ripe wine offers incredible balance, a black/purple color, a stunning nose of crushed rock, white flowers, blueberries and blackberries intermixed with incense and a forest floor component, and an extraordinary integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. Thismagnificent wine should age effortlessly for 35-40+ years.
