Valandraud - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2022
Château Valandraud, a dream came true
Château Valandraud is the main achievement of a couple of wine lovers, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. Château Valandraud was born in 1991 on a 0.6 ha vineyard bought with all the couple's savings. This small vineyard is situated in the fongaban valley, in the Pavie Macquin/La Clotte neighbourhood and this is where "Valandraud" comes from: Val (valley) + Andraud (Murielle's family name, which appears on the Saint Emilion's registery since 1459).
The 8.88 ha estate is now fully based on the clayey-limestone hills and slopes of Saint Etienne de Lisse, with an eclectic array of grape varieties : Merlot 65 %, Cabernet Franc 25%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%, Malbec 4%, Carmenère 1%. In 2012 comes the consecration: Château Valandraud is promoted to 1st Classified Growth.

An unusual year in terms of climate, which ended in a peaceful and magnificent way.
"We are delighted to perceive in this wine a rarely achieved balance between the density and roundness of the tannins, the perception of freshness and the fruit which remained bright thanksto the low night temperatures of the summer." Jean-Luc Thunevin and his team
"This is a Valandraud with a V12 engine... It manages to maintain balance and purity, thankfully not imposing or fatiguing unlike some others." Neal Martin, Vinous, 95-97pts
