Tour Carnet - Haut-Médoc 2022

La Tour Carnet, Grand Cru Classé in 1855

The origins of the Château go back to the 12th century, which makes it the oldest Château in the Médoc. Its architecture is of medieval type with a tower built in 1120, surrounded by a moat. It has known famous owners, including the family of Michel de Montaigne, one of the greatest French philosophers and who was twice Mayor of Bordeaux. The vineyard of Château La Tour Carnet was established there in 1409.

Owned by Bernard Magrez, the terroir of Château La Tour Carnet is a true mosaic of very diverse soils, particularly suitable for Merlot.

Always striving for excellence, Bernard Magrez is a forerunner in technological and agronomic research, as evidenced by the collection of 75 grape varieties planted at La Tour Carnet, in order to observe their adaptability and find a potential response to the challenges of climate change.

Château La Tour Carnet 2022 is noticeably softer than previous vintages. For the first time, I discovered that it no longer relies on okay notes to embellish itself, but rather emphasizes its fruitiness and spices. Despite coming from the tannin-rich vintage of 2022, its texture is even more delicate. If Château La Tour Carnet can continue to maintain this style, it will undoubtedly win more consumers’ favor.

Bernard Magrez owner of this estate that has a history dating back to 1112 - now grown to over 200ha. On this showing, they are being smart about how they are dealing with the extra fruit, because this retains confidence and grip, plenty of liquorice and cocoa bean spice, with oyster shell salinity on the finish, tannins that remain tight and this point and need longer in bottle.

Black cherries, smoky tobacco, and spicy oak notes all emerge from the 2022 Château La Tour Carnet, a rocking little Haut-Médoc that has medium to full-bodied richness, velvety tannins, and outstanding length. It’s great today and will be great in a decade or more.

2026-2036 92/100

The 2022 La Tour Carnet has an opulent and forward bouquet with black cherry, boysenberry and light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins. It's grainy in texture with tarry, lightly spiced notes on the finish. This was tasted twice.

Ripe cherries, plums, tapenade, dried flowers and a touch of baked berries on the nose. This is ripe but still juicy and tightly wound, with dusty tannins that coalesce at the end. Try after two more years in the bottle.

The 2022 La Tour Carnet is a potent, brooding wine. A rush of dark red fruit, iron, white pepper, leather and licorice stains the palate. This driving, persistent Haut-Médoc has a lot to recommend it. The 2022 is complex and wonderfully dynamic in the glass, qualities that will allow it to age gracefully for many years to come.

Ripe and full on the palate, dense but lively black fruit fills the mouth with softly chewy tannins giving some power as well as definition. Quite a serious wine but has the right balance between too much and too little. Dense and tanic no doubt but has life and style. Rolland & Associés consultants.

Château La Tour Carnet 2022 (En Primeur) is noticeably softer than previous vintages. For the first time, I discovered that it no longer relies on okay notes to embellish itself, but rather emphasizes its fruitiness and spices. Despite coming from the tannin-rich vintage of 2022, its texture is even more delicate. If Château La Tour Carnet can continue to maintain this style, it will undoubtedly win more consumers' favor. Of course, this change is only based on my sensory experience during En Primeur tasting, and the conclusion still needs to be determined after bottling.

The 2022 La Tour Carnet was picked from 12 September to 4 October. Of course, it has absorbed Château Caronne Ste. Gemme after last year's acquisition by Bernard Magrez, making it the largest estate on the Left Bank. It is laden with ripe black cherries, raspberry coulis and fig scents, hints of iodine in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy entry. I like the marine influence in this wine. It is well balanced with a slightly powdery texture and fresh finish. Give it 4-5 years in bottle.

Deep crimson. Instense blackcurrant praline vanilla nougat aromas. Supple and sweet fruited with ripe cassis, chocolaty notes, fine loosknit grainy tannins and udnerlying espresso, roasted coffee notes. Firm chalky firnish with seductive sweet fruits. Very modern and approachable. (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc 30%+ new oak)

The 2022 La Tour Carnet is a blend of 57% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a little bit of swirling and convincing to reveal its core of baked plums, boysenberry preserves, and damp soil, leading to wafts of cedar chest, graphite, and wild fungi. The medium to full-bodied palate coats the mouth with black fruit preserves and chewy tannins, finishing on an earthy note.

The 2022 Château La Tour Carnet is enjoyable, with a lighter, medium-bodied, yet balanced style carrying both red and black fruits, some leafy, foresty, herbal nuances, soft tannins, and a lengthy finish. It's nicely balanced and will clearly be an enjoyable, well-made Haut-Médoc.

The 2022 La Tour Carnet is packed with dark cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, licorice and espresso. Potent and heady, with tons of tannin, the 2022 is shaping up to be one of the under the radar wines of the year. Tasted two times. Drinking window : 2027-2042

Blackberries, black cherries, flowers, tobacco leaf, cedar, and espresso nuances form the core of this wine. On the palate, the wine is creamy, lush, round, and packed with sweet, juicy, dark red fruits with notes of espresso and chocolate that come through on the finish. The wine blends 59% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc. You can enjoy this in its youth. Drink from 2025-2040.

A blend of 59% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 La Tour Carnet offers up rich aromas of cassis, blueberry, warm spices and pencil shavings, framed by toasty new oak. Fresh and slightly menthol-tingled, the palate is medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit and firm structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish.
