Terraces - Castle Pesquié - Ventoux 2015
From the Latin "Terras", "motte de terre", this word has taken the meaning of "levée de terre" forming a median maintained by a stone wall. The relief of the Ventoux is characterized by the alternation of hills and valleys. To highlight this exceptional terroir, the slopes of the hills have been arranged in "terraces". Even today, they are found in the Provençal countryside also called "restanques" or "rebanqués". With this name, the Chaudière family pays tribute to the Provençal landscape "carved" by their ancestors and to the terraces of the garden of Château Pesquié. The culture of the vine must have existed for more than two thousand years at the Château Pesquié. The recent discovery in the heart of the Appellation Côtes du Ventoux of a pottery workshop and vintage pottery dating from the Roman period (- 30 BC) confirms that our region is one of the oldest wine growing areas in France . Long after the introduction by the Romans, the Church will play a fundamental role in the development of the vineyard especially during the presence of the popes in Avignon in the fourteenth century. From centuries to centuries, the domain has passed into the hands of many Lords, from the Counts of Mormoiron to the Marquises of Reilhanette and passing by the Lords of Maubec. The castle took on its present appearance towards the years 1745, with the balanced style of a Provençal bastide. It was in 1970 that Odette and René Bastide bought the Château from a descendant of Alphonse Daudet, three years before the name Ventoux was recognized as an AOC. Then begins a story of love, sweat, choice and future with this terroir. A story that continues today with Alexandre and Fréderic Chaudière, the third generation. A wine story!
