The evolved, soft, silky 2008 Talbot is unquestionably a sleeper of the vintage, offering a dark plum/garnet color, loads of roasted herb, berry, black cherry, plum and Asian spice aromas intermixed with an attractive forest floor-like note. Already drinking well, this medium-bodied St.-Julien should continue to evolve for 10-15+ years. Drink 2011-2016

Dunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, violetter Rand. In der Nase zart blättrig-zitronig unterlegtes rotes Beerenkonfit, mit etwas Dörrobstaromen unterlegt. Am Gaumen frisch und rassig, wirkt eher schlank, Ribiselnoten, mittlere Länge, mineralischer Nachhall, zarter Nougat im Rückgeschmack.

Good bright, deep ruby-red. Fresh, minty nose is dominated by ripe red cherry and redcurrant, with hints of cinnamon and red rose. At once plump and juicy, with ripe red cherry and redcurrant jelly flavors given very good precision by harmonious acids. The lovely long, floral finish shows a hint of pepper and ultra-smooth tannins. One of the most promising Talbots in years, and very well done.

Dichtes, dunkles Granat-Lila. Kühles Cabernet- Bouquet, deutlich florale Noten, Heidelbeerstauden. Für einen Talbot selten viel Fleisch im Gaumen, imposantes Extrakt, Spuren von unterreifem Cabernet, leicht mehliges Finale. Ein anderes Fassmuster war dünn, wässrig und nichtssagend. 2018 – 2032

A forward, luscious wine that should turn out to be outstanding, Talbot’s deep ruby/purple-colored 2008 offers plenty of roasted herb, berry fruit, coffee, and soil characteristics in its rich, layered, stunningly opulent and fleshy personality. While it still has plenty of tannin to shed, it is ripe and well-integrated. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and drink it over the next 20-25 years.

Avec l'arrivée de Stéphane Derenoncourt, oenologue conseil, l'équipe de Talbot a engagé une approche plus pointue du vignoble et des vinifications. Par un travail plus proche du parcellaire, les vins sont bien partis pour retrouver leur meilleur profil. Déjà 2008, assemblé par Stéphane Derenoncourt, offre une bonne concentration dans un registre aromatique floral. C'est également un millésime très marqué par le cabernet-sauvignon qui apporte ici une trame très médocaine. A suivre de près.

Un évident changement de style : le nez prend des notes plus classiques de mûre/framboise, le boisé semble plus épicé que vanillé, le corps est généreux, avec une chair très importante, la tension en bouche est plus affirmée, le vin semble tout aussi séducteur mais mieux construit et plus campé sur ses tanins que dans les millésimes immédiatement précédents. Un excellent Talbot !

Medium intense crimson. Then a bit raw and less than fully ripe. Lots of acidity and burly, almost burnt notes. Slacker than most. Drying tannins on the finish. Drink 2013-18

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. This is very closed on the nose and despite coaxing it is offering nothing. The palate has a sweet, ripe blackberry and cedar entry, although it is missing the backbone of some of the other Saint Julien. Nice purity and little sign of under-ripeness. Not convincing at the moment. Tasted April 2009.
