Suduiraut, an iconic Sauternes wines

A rigorous selection, in the vineyard and in the cellars, guarantees the elaboration of the wines of Château Suduiraut, representing the successful expression of this exceptional terroir. The Premier Grand Cru Classé has belonged to Axa Millésimes since 1992, alongside Châteaux Pichon Baron and Pibran and is one of the 4 largest vineyard of the appellation.

Its 91-hectare vineyard lies on sandy-clay soils. The stones capture the heat of the sun and thus allow the grapes to reach maturity more quickly. This unique terroir gives the wine its opulence.

The chosen proportions of the grape varieties are decisive in the unique profile of the wines. 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard is made of Semillon and 10% of Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year.

The 2023 Suduiraut is a knockout Sauternes for the vintage. Very pure on the nose with wild honey, apricot and touches of lychee, this is packed with botrytised fruit. The palate has just the right amount of viscosity without overloading in terms of weight, making this relatively easier drinking compared to other vintages. Irresistible. 150 g/L residual sugar.

The purity and focus is so impressive, with a linear nature and precision that goes on and on. Full-bodied and very sweet, with layers of fruit and such length. A solid and muscular Sauternes with a classic structure. 100% semillon. 150 g/L residual sugar. Drinkable now, but even better in seven or eight years.

Suduiraut hat die Fähigkeit, gleich zu Beginn die Weichen zu stellen und mit seiner Frische zu glänzen, und doch entspricht dies nicht unbedingt seinen Codes. So offenbart er wurzelige Nuancen von Sellerie, ergänzt durch den Duft von Orangenschalen, gerösteten Mandeln und Pistazien. Mit Luft gewinnt der Wein (noch mehr) an Pluralität bzw. Mineralik. Der Auftakt ist subtil, kündigt Süße und Temperament an mit einer außergewöhnlichen Kombination aus Salzigkeit, Charme und Bitterkeit! Ein erobernder, entschlossener, vollmundiger, lieblicher, kräftiger und anhaltender Wein, der in seiner Kapazität glänzt, den Zucker einzukreisen und mit seiner Frische und Herbheit zu strahlen. Er ist sehr groß und wird es noch lange bleiben!

Killer juice, the 2023 Château Suduiraut has a drop-dead gorgeous nose of honeyed orange, white flowers, warm croissant, and spice. This carries to a full-bodied Sauternes with a round, layered mouthfeel, terrific sweetness of fruit, and bright acidity.

Intensity is the keyword here. The wealth of ripe, and overripe white peaches, pineapples, pears, roasted cashews, apricots, spice, and vanilla is off the hook! The wine is rich, opulent, and seductive, but there is ample racy acidity giving this sweet treat the lift it needs. Long, and seamless, this is a true, decadent treat, that lovers of sweet wines should have in their cellars. It will age for decades. The wine was made from 100% Semillon. Drink from 2025-2060. 97-99 Pts.

The 2023 Suduiraut (100% Sémillon) is a real stunner. Light on its feet yet wonderfully deep, the 2023 offers up a heady mix of tangerine oil, mint, white flowers, apricot and passion fruit. Readers will find a Sauternes that is more finesse than power. The 2023 is essentially a blend of three picks. The first was done at the end of September and accounted for 20% of the crop. The core of the vineyard, about 75%, was picked in a day ten window in October, following the September rains. A smaller third pick rounded out the harvest.

The 2023 Suduiraut is pure Sémillon that was picked from the end of September with more passerillage berries. After the rain, the first botrytis picking began on October 1 and lasted over the next 12 days, when botrytization was rapid. Seventy percent of the crop was picked on this date, which was essential for maintaining purity of fruit. The harvest concluded on October 17 after three tries through the vineyard. Matured in 50% new oak, it has a lovely, beguiling bouquet with dried honey, quince, almond and saffron aromas that are beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced with a spicy, tensile opening. Very impressive richness matches with a silver bead of acidity here. This is armed with immense purity on the finish that effortlessly manages the 150g/L residual sugar. Supremely gifted Suduiraut, ahoy.

Medium golden yellow, silver reflections. Delicate lanolin, ripe tropical fruit, delicate honey touch, a hint of apricot confit. Fine oak kiss on the palate, ripe mango fruit, pleasant, integrated sweetness, powerful and mineral, fine honey note, sure devel- opment and certain ageing potential.
