Clean, fresh violet and white pepper nuances complicate ripe blackcurrant and dark cherry. The palate is firm but does have length. Drink 2015-2022. (87/100 points)

88+A nicely structured wine with plenty of chalky minerality, raspberry and blueberry fruit, medium body and moderate tannin, the 2011 Soutard is still tightly-knit compared to some of its peers, but it displays excellent potential. Forget it for a few years and drink it over the following 12-15.

Fine effort this year. Looks to have found the elegance that was missing. Very pure, fresh and digestable with fine, long tannins. Great expression of the terroir. Drink 2018-2028.

A big, backstrapping, masculine style of wine, the 2011 Soutard exhibits a healthy blue/purple color along with notes of damp earth, blackberries, plums and hints of toasty oak, forest floor and underbrush. This attractive, deep, chewy St.-Emilion possesses moderately high tannins and good acidity. It will require 3-5 years of cellaring after its release, and should keep for two decades.

Très belle finesse de tanin, allonge délicate et profonde, intensité discrète mais énergique. Beau volume et confirmation des progrès du cru.

From 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 13.5% alcohol. Fennel, truffle and black raspberry can be found in this medium-bodied wine with a cherry-filled, round finish. 90-91 Pts

A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the Soutard 2011 has a rather sullen tertiary bouquet. The palate is spicy and a little hard on the entry. Masculine and a little brutish, this will need to soften and harmonize by the time of bottling, but I think it will and may merit a higher score. Tasted April 2012(87-89+ points)

Drink 2017-2023 Darkest crimson, black core. Fragrant red fruit aroma, perhaps just a touch leafy or stemmy. Chewy and juicy fruited, the tannins a bit abrupt on the finish. The acidity sticks out a bit too. Jagged overall. (JH)

Solid, with a nice winey feel to the red currant, black currant and crushed plum fruit. Nicely packed on the finish, with toasted spice filling in. Has some heft, but keeps a nice mouthfeel through the finish.—J.M.

Mint and plum-juice flavors mingle easily in this densely fruity wine. It combines sweet tannins and dark fruit with spice imparted from wood aging. It’s already juicily attractive. —R.V

A wine with blueberry and orange peel character with hints of salt. Medium body with firm tannins and a medium finish. A little more fruit in the center palate would be nice.
