Firm tannins add to an impression of burliness and virility that is unusual for this wine. A number of core parcels that typically go into the Sirène were damaged by frost, which means the 2017 emerges from slightly higher quality parcels than is the norm. The 20% Cabernet Franc is also on the higher end and adds a distinctly spicy note as well as a good bit of structure.

The bouquet is quite “gentle” and unfolds gradually in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very well balanced with moderate depth and shows impressive harmony from start to finish. There is nothing spectacular here, rather just a delicious deuxième vin that is going to (hopefully) represent great value.

Medium garnet-purple in color, it has very pretty kirsch and rose hip tea notes with a core of red plums and hints of cloves and forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied, chewy and fresh with a good core of fragrant fruit and an earthy finish.
