Sigalas Rabaud - Sauternes 2023

Sigalas Rabaud, a family history

Founded in the 17th century, the land of Rabaud was acquired in 1863 by Henri de Sigalas. Most of it was sold forty years later by his son Pierre Gaston de Sigalas. He kept the entire south-facing gravelly plots, called 'the jewel of SIGALAS', which comprises the current 14 hectares. Today, the Lambert des Granges family, heir to this Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855, continue the work of their ancestors with the same enerygy and passion.

Caramelized peach, honeyed orange, croissant, spice, and candied mint are just some of the nuances in the 2023 Château Sigalas Rabaud, a beautifully balanced, layered, elegant Sauternes in the vintage that has nicely balanced sweetness and a clean, lengthy finish.

Juicy, ripe, and overripe pineapples, apricots, candied white peaches, caramel, flowers, and honey are all over the place. The finish is all about the honey-slathered, ripe, and over ripe, sweet tropical fruits with their racy edge. You can enjoy this early as well as age it. Drink from 2026-2045. 92-94 Pts.

This has lovely bitter orange zest with grip and tension wrapped up in luscious perserved lemons and marmalade. Super enjoyable, lifts through the palate, and showcases the pleasures of the vintage. Great quality. 140g/l residual sugar. Lambert des Granges family.

The 2023 Sigalas Rabaud is still taking shape in barrel, yet it possesses notable depth and textural richness, even in this somewhat unsettled state. I especially admire its dynamic energy and overall vibrancy. White peach, jasmine, spice, mint and exotic flowers all grace a Sauternes that is distinguished by its flavor concentration and complexity.

Curiously, the 2023 Sigalas Rabaud comes across just a little muted at the moment—no doubt, just a closed phase during its élevage. The palate is fresh and zesty on the entry with candied orange peel and quince. It’s not as dense or weighty as its peers, but it has plenty of energy and a long, spicy aftertaste. Fine.

Medium golden yellow, silver reflections. Delicately floral, white tropical fruit, some peach, a hint of mango. Substantial, vivid wood, white pepper, ripe stone fruit, opu- lent fruit, not yet fully in balance, will benefit from further ageing.

This has a sweet spiced-pear, apple-tart and light honey character. Sweet, medium-bodied palate and a salty, spicy finish. Fresh and balanced.
