Sénéjac - Haut-Médoc 2021

Nicolas de Bloys is the first known owner. In the 16th century, this spirited squire planted the first vines on the estate. Since 2011 Philippine, Marguerite and Gustave Cordier have taken over the family property, supported by their parents Nancy Bignon-Cordier and Jean-Paul Bignon. The family is also the owner of Château Talbot, 4th Classified Growth in Saint Julien.

Château Sénéjac extends over 150 hectares, within which 41 hectares of vines are exploited. Of the 150 hectares that make up the estate, about forty hectares of forest border the vineyard to the north and south of the property. There is a wide variety of species with hornbeams, oaks, acacias and maritime pines.

The 2021 Sénéjac has a light red berry and briar nose, retaining that element of blood orange that imparts a little complexity. It does need more vigor. The palate is better, with fine tannins and fresh acidity, quite vibrant with red cherries and redcurr

Arômes délicats, joli fruit et minéralité, la bouche est raffinée, joli toucher de bouche, tannins satinés et finale fraîche. Tout en harmonie. Du style.

Medium-bodied, fresh, forward and fruity, with a light, red berry palate presence along with an earthy, savory touch in the red berry finish that will be best enjoyed in its youth. Drink from 2023-2031. 87-89

The 2021 Sénéjac was picked from September 24 to October 7 at 29hL/ha and raised in 30% new oak. The perfumed nose features potpourri-tinged red fruit, red cherries and blood orange, nicely focused but not intense. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with grainy tannins, modest depth and just a slight attenuation toward the finish. Enjoy over the next 12–15 years. (12.8% alcohol)

Purpurrot. Kirschige Nase, leicht stechend.

This 37-hectare estate in the southern Médoc (not far from the likes of La Lagune and Cantemerle) has delivered a fine effort in the form of the 2021 Sénéjac. Offering up aromas of cassis, spices, pipe tobacco and loamy soil, it's medium-bodied, ample and fleshy, with the supple tannins and charming, open personality that's typical of wines from this sector. Château Talbot's Jean-Michel Laporte is the winemaker.
