Sena - Valle De Aconcagua 2008

Seña, an iconic Chilean wine

Seña was created in 1995 as a joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, who shared a dream of making a wine that would show Chile’s full potential, a wine that would come to be welcomed, in time, among the world’s First Growths. Modelled on a Bordeaux style, it would have a Chilean soul given by its Carmenere variety, grown under biodynamic farming principles in the Aconcagua Valley.

This is a wine that shows amazing black olives, leather and hints of mint. Full body with fine tannins and a beautiful depth and richness. It caresses and seduces you. Starting to drink now.

The 2008 Sena has a cool, reserved bouquet of blackberry, raspberry leaf, crushed stone and a touch of Margaux-like violets. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, crisp acidity and a symmetrical, rather stern, minerally finish, tobacco lingering on the aftertaste. Drink now-2018. 91+

Eduardo Chadwick’s 2008 Sena is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carmenere, 10% Merlot, with the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It offers up an enthralling, already complex bouquet of sandalwood, exotic spices, incense, red licorice, black currant, and blackberry. Velvety-textured, layered, and structured, it deftly combines power and elegance in a wine that mandates another 5-6 years of cellaring. It will deliver prime drinking from 2016 to 2028+.

(57% cabernet sauvignon, 20% carmenere, 10% merlot, 8% petit verdot and 5% cabernet franc) Ruby-red. Musky redcurrant, cherry, spicecake and rose oil on the seductively perfumed nose. Silky, suave and fine-grained, in a distinctly elegant style. Red fruit and spice notes are complemented by a touch of bitter chocolate. The racy, dry, palate-staining finish shows full ripeness yet the wine comes off weightless. I'd bet on it rewarding at least another six or seven years of cellaring.
