Schloss Johannisberg, a historic icon of the Rheingau region
At the heart of the Rheingau, one of Germany's premier wine regions, lies Schloss Johannisberg, a historic estate with over 1,200 years of winemaking expertise. Since 1720, the property has been dedicated exclusively to producing fine Riesling. The vineyard is renowned for pioneering the first late harvest, a significant innovation that has shaped the course of German viticulture.
Under the leadership of Stefan Doktor since 2008, a certified sommelier and graduate of the Austrian Wine and Spirits Academy, the estate continues to innovate while staying true to its roots. Each of Schloss Johannisberg’s wines is distinguished by the unique colour of its capsule, symbolising the estate’s commitment to producing exceptional wines.
Goldlack, the reference of German excellence
Goldlack, renowned for its distinctive style, is a "Trocken" Riesling, meaning "dry" in German. Hand harvesting ensures that only the finest grapes are selected, contributing to the complexity and expressiveness of the aromas that define Goldlack. The golden capsule refers to the name of this prestigious cuvée.
The 2021 Vintage
100 points by James Suckling: "Prepare yourself to meet the spirit of great mineral dry Riesling."
Following three long years of drought, 2021 proved to be an excellent vintage in the Rheingau, with favourable rainfall levels.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, aromas of mirabelle and dark berries such as blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by notes of liquorice, herbs, and roasted nuances. On the palate, Goldlack's dense and creamy structure is followed by intense minerality, saline notes, and a marked spicy acidity.
