Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) - Pomerol 2017

Château Saint-Pierre in Pomerol, a beautiful gem to discover

The Pradel family, working in the wine industry since 1740, owns this 3 hectare jewel located in the heart of the village of Pomerol and its eponymous appellation. The vines of the domain are planted on terroirs of a rare quality: four parcels located near the very prestigious domains of Pomerol, Fleur-Pétrus, Clinet, Trotanoy, Le Pin and Vieux Château Certan.

The wines of Château Saint-Pierre are imbued with a distinctive personality, a deft blend of power and finesse which combines the strengths of different terroirs.

The 2017 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple color, it strides boldly out of the glass with pronounced notions of stewed plums, dried mulberries and baked cherries plus hints of Ceylon tea and tobacco. Medium bodied, the palate is chock-full of expressive black fruit preserves, framed by rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing earthy. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2035. 91+

The 2017 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) is virile and brooding, and yet all the elements come together in the glass. This is a powerful, dense and hearty Pomerol. Black cherry, plum, leather, smoke, spice, grilled herbs, tobacco and licorice infuse the 2017 with notable character and depth.

Another elegant, finesse style Pomerol, the 2017 Chateau Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) offers a complex bouquet of black raspberries, red currants, flowery incense, and spice. This gives way to a medium-bodied 2017 that has silky tannins, a balanced, elegant, charming personality, and a great finish. It's not massive, but it shines for its purity and finesse. Based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new French oak, drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years.

Such fresh red plums and mulberries here. This really has some alluring fruit and dark, stony nuances. The palate is silky and richly flavored with dark plums and berries. Long, ribbon-like tannins. Drink or hold.

Nez fruits noirs, bouche plaisante, souple, cacao, assez dense, bon milieu de bouche velouté, amertume du boisé, devrait bien évoluer.

From vines located between Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin (I’d call those good neighbors), the inky 2017 Château Saint-Pierre lends credence to the assertion that Pomerol was the star of the Right Bank in 2017. The first vintage where they’ve included Cabernet Franc in the blend, the 2017 has a rounded, voluptuous, even sexy profile as well as the classic damp earth, violets, and ripe red and black Merlot fruit that’s made this appellation so famous. It has plenty of texture as well as notable purity and elegance.

Robe rubis. Le nez se présente fin et racé, sur des touches florales et épicées. Le palais se distingue par une structure équilibrée, à la trame continue et à la finale soutenue.

The 2017 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) is powerful, dense and super-expressive. Smoke, grilled herbs, leather and tobacco all give the 2017 its distinctive dark, somber personality. This is an especially virile style of Pomerol.

Complet et élégant, un cru discret, mais très bien situé sur le plateau pomerolais. A redécouvrir.

Flowers, licorice, wet earth and plummy fruits delivered in a medium bodied, soft, polished manner. On the backend, you'll enjoy silky, ripe, earthy plums.

Stéphane Derenoncourt has worked for five years with this estate to bring it to its potential. Lying just between Le Pin and Vieux Château Certan, there was no frost here. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol leaps from the glass with the most gorgeous violets and lilacs perfume over a core of blackberry preserves and blueberry tart plus hints of Indian spices and licorice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with bags of rich, perfumed fruit, supported by velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Only 3,000 bottles were produced this year.

This is very good for the vintage with no shortage of black fruit, which is enveloped by firm, grainy tannins and follows through to a medium to long finish.
