Schwarzdunkles Rubinrot, noch ziemlich satte Mitte, rost-roter Rand. Tiefgründiges Bouquet mit dunkelwürzigen Noten, Fleischfond, Brom-beeren und getrocknete Rosenblüten, eine echte Gewürzgranate. Am Gaumen sehr schlank mit fast schon karger Mitte, klassischer Margaux mit dem kühlen Jahrgang entsprechend kôrniger Gerb-stoffstruktur, der als Food-Wein seine Vorzüge für Klassik-Trinker ausspielen wird.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index annual 10-year on tasting from an ex-château bottle. The Rauzan Segla 2004 has a lifted minty bouquet with touches of liquorice infusing the black rather than red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight chewiness on the entry, but there is certainly commendable weight and concentration here. It feels structured and exerts an insistent grip with a slightly furry finish. This is one of the few Margaux 2004s that will repay further cellaring. There is a pleasant spicy background here, even though it does not possess the elegance or panache of more benevolent vintages. Tasted March 2014.

In my barrel assessment I hinted that this Rauzan-Segla might merit an additional point in bottle and so it came to pass! It has very good intensity on the nose with thick layers of raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of orange peel and graphite. The palate is full-bodied, adding weight all the time in the glass, quite plump with good solid structure. It is blessed with a lovely cedar-tinged finish with a length that can only leave you smiling. Drink 2012-2025. Tasted November 2008.

Mittleres Rubin-Purpur mit lila Schimmer. Rotbeeriges Bouquet, noch etwas zurückhaltend, leicht alkoholisch. Aromatischer Gaumen mit gut stützender Säure, Stoff zeigend, Rückhalt und erst in den Anfängen, um sich eher traditioneller Bordeaux zu präsentieren.

Rauzan-Segla’s finesse-styled 2004 offers raspberry, cherry, forest floor, and dried herb-like characteristics in its deep ruby/purple-hued, medium-bodied personality. With excellent purity, freshness, and precision, it is not a blockbuster claret, but rather a stylish, elegant, accessible effort with sweet tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Deep red-ruby. Black raspberry, cedar, tar and nutty oak on the nose, with hints of truffle and underbrush. Broad, silky and quite dry; classic understated claret that's a bit youthfully tight today. The broad tannins are nicely buffered by the wine's mid-palate material. Finishing flavors of red berries, tobacco and smoky oak.

The 2004 Rauzan-Segla is superior to the 2003, offering a deep ruby/purple hue in addition to a flowery, mineral-infused, sweet black fruit, cherry, and subtle oak-scented bouquet. Medium-bodied, elegant, beautifully concentrated, and well-balanced in a classic, feminine style, it should drink well for 15+ years.

Good ruby-red. Boysenberry and raspberry fruit aromas lifted by sexy rose petal, violet and sandalwood. Juicy, chewy and fairly dense, with considerable power and tannic clout. Shows more mid-palate material to buffer its tannins than an early sample did last spring. Finishes with surprising length. Showing its currant-and-tobacco cabernet side today.Kolasa noted that Rauzan-Ségla was spared by some of the late summer storms of 2004.

Cerise noire, mûre, un peu sauvage. Bouche aux tanins assez présents, fruité confirmé, trame solide, discrète au début, qui se resserre ensuite. Bonne longueur. Un Rauzan un peu plus en muscle que d'habitude.

Mittleres Granat-Purpur. Zu Beginn etwas hölzern wirkendes Bouquet, Preiselbeeren, heller Tabak, Lorbeer, verhalten. Saftiger, fein stoffiger Gaumen, momentan grünbittere Tannine auf der Zunge, Spiel zwischen roter und blauer Frucht, mittlere Adstringenz, gute Länge, kann mit den grossen Margaux nicht mithalten. 2010-2025

Good deep ruby-red. Crushed berries and dark chocolate on the nose. Densely packed but quite backward today, with inky dark berry and licorice flavors. Distinctly dry and a bit hard-edged, but with no shortage of flavors.Finishes with dusty, fairly fine tannins and uncompromising dryness.

Derrière la robe très sombre, le nez laisse s'échapper une discrète note de réglisse. Après une attaque assez franche, la bouche renferme de la concentration et beaucoup d'élégance. Les tanins sont modérés et la finale, assez souple et de bonne longueur, porte sur des fruits rouges.
