Quintus - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2022
Château Quintus, the new star of the right bank
First, Domaine Clarence Dillon purchased a superb property in Saint-Émilion in 2011, then another neighbouring one in 2013 and finally a third one in 2021. These three exceptional properties now form a wine estate of 45 hectares producing one of Saint-Émilion’s finest wines. The Gallo-Romans, creators of the vineyards of Saint-Emilion, used to name their 5th child "Quintus". So, Domaine Clarence Dillon has decided to pay tribute to its glorious predecessors by renaming this wine estate Château Quintus.
Perched on a limestone promontory, culminating at an altitude of 62 metres, Quintus offers up a breath-taking 360-degree view across the Dordogne valley. Its topography, boasting a plateau and featuring comprises an incredible abundance of micro-climates and limestone soils, especially well suited for extricating the finest qualities of the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varietals.
The environmental specificity of Château Quintus lies in its Mediterranean Green Belt, a true haven of biodiversity. The sublime natural gardens and terraces of Quintus, representing two hectares, are enchanting from the very the first glance. These boast numerous hedgerows, majestic holm oaks, low stone walls and verdant escarpments.
The 2022 vintageWith the recent expansion of the property, the 2022 vintage marks the first time that Château Quintus has managed the entire winemaking process, from pruning to winemaking. This year made it possible to fully embrace the abundant diversity of terroirs, bringing out their finest expression.
The 2022 vintage follows irrefutably in the footsteps of very promising vintages such as 2019 and 2020.
The clay-limestone soils of Saint-Emilion, particularly those of Quintus, are thriving this year thanks to their ability to retain coolness, allowing the grapes to adapt to early periods of heat and drought.
