Prieuré-Lichine - Margaux 2010

Château Prieuré-Lichine is among the most historic estates in the Margaux appellation. Its wines have a true "Margaux" identity, combining elegance and refinement. Every day, the team shares its wine “art de vivre” with visitors from all over the world.
After a half a century of close ties with the Lichine family, Château Prieuré-Lichine was acquired by the Ballande group. Under the new owners, the estate set its sights firmly on the new millennium, continuing its path forward, and ever faithful to its long tradition of hospitality.

Bright ruby-red.  Aromas of blackberry, spices and licorice.  Pure and nicely delineated, with excellent intensity to its flavors of black fruits and candied rose.  Nicely sweet in the mouth but also firmly structured and youthful, with the structure to support mid-term aging. 90 (+?) points

Takes a dense, slightly chunky approach, with bittersweet cocoa and espresso up front followed by a core of dark currant, plum sauce and anise. Features charcoal-laden grip on the finish, showing ample stuffing and polished fruit. Should settle in once the modern toast treatment gets soaked up. Best from 2014 through 2024. –JM

Dense purple, with loads of blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as hints of smoke and subtle charred wood, this wine is expansive, round, generous, lush and multi-dimensional. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years.A beautiful example of wine from this estate, which is using well-known consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, finished 2010 at 14.5% natural alcohol, and seems to be one of the sexier, more developed and evolved styles of the vintage.

Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of sliced mushroom. Full and round with chewy tannins. Give this four or five years to soften. Tight and structured. Better in 2017.

Tasted at the UGC tasting in London. The Prieure-Lichine has a taut nose, nicely composed with blackberry, wild hedgerow and attractive granite scents. The palate is medium-bodied, a little angular on the entry with a keen thread of acidity, although there is plenty of attractive chewy blackberry, cassis and balsamic notes towards the grippy finish. It will need three or four years to gain harmony. Tasted November 2012 (89 + )

2010: The strongest Prieure Lichine produced in many years, along with consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, the proprietors have fashioned a wine with true opulence as well as wonderful projected aromatics of blue, red and black fruits, licorice, flowers and subtle oak. Silky tannins, a sexy, generous, opulent attack, mid-palate and finish, no hard edges and well-integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol (14.5%) are all found in this impressive Margaux. Give it 2-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25. It is potentially one of the longest lived wines made at Prieure Lichine since some of their classic efforts from the sixties. Drink 2013-2028

Extrem dunkles Purpur. Verhaltenes Bouquet, Kirschen und Holunder, dezente Tabaknoten. Im Gaumen fest und stoffig, noch verhalten, aber mit sensationellem Extrakt von schwarzen Beeren. 2018-2033

The deep ruby 2010 Prieure-Lichine offers up notes of lifted blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant fruit, supported on the palate by a very pure berry fruit expression with a gentle graceful edge. This wine is very Margaux, very classy with good length and clearly made with a light touch, something to be appreciated in a vintage where many people either over-extracted the tannins or didnt choose the ideal harvest date..

Nez fermé, belle bouche soyeuse en attaque, finale plus tannique et relevée, mais sans dureté, devrait se fondre. O=2018 G=18 ans

Fine, exuberant yet elegant Margaux fruit, very attractive and always one of the most attractive, typical wines of the appellation. Drink 2016-28. (17 points)

Wow. This shows a wonderful core of intense, ripe fruit and velvety tannins. Loads of berry, chocolate and toasted oak. A joy to taste young.

Prieure-Lichine From a blend of 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the perfume offers aromas of cassis, earth, flowers and spice. Full bodied with soft tannins, the rich cassis, feminine wine ends with an elegant finish. 91-94 Pts

An amped-up style, with dark, weighty, frankly toasty layers of blackberry, plum and currant fruit giving way to black licorice on the finish. Offers more raw power than finesse and relies on toast more than acidity, but this is a solid example of the style. —J.M.
