Clos Apalta is proud to release a new wine named “Prélude.” Crafted with the same meticulous care as Clos Apalta and Petit Clos, this third addition to the collection boasts a fruity and enticing profile. Accessible from its youth, Prélude is a true pleasure wine, that transports you to Apalta and captures the Chilean spirit of celebration.

The 2022 Vintage - Tasting notes:

COLOR: Intense and deep inked purple red.

NOSE: Intense nose with spices and blackberry, figs and sweet spices from a well integrated oak.

PALATE: Round palate with volume and concentration of ripe fruit, textured tannins and a long-lasting finish.

Clos Apalta Prélude 2022 (Apalta Valley, Colchagua, Chile; 53% Carménère; 36% Cabernet Sauvignon; 7% Merlot; 4% Petit Verdot; pH 3.6; 14.5% alcohol; tasted at the CVBG press tasting over Zoom with Andrea Leon, technical director; 3000 cases made). A third wine in effect, this the first vintage, from the young vines and lower altitude parcels from the valley floor. Quite a cool vintage, but more solaire and sunny than the 2021 vintage wines. Beautifully fresh and lifted in its leafiness. Very pretty and expressive. Vertical and lifted. A clay, earthy minerality. Blackcurrant and red currant leaf, a little bramble too; a little blueberry; but also a little raspberry and redcurrant. I love the leafiness here. Mainly Carménère, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Quite tight to the spine and with grippy tannins that accentuate that. Authentic and with a lovely intensity for a wine at this level. Vivid. Juicy and succulent and that’s very much the style sought here. Pure, focussed, precise but without the complexity of the grands vins. 93.

White pepper with hints of black olives, iron and dark chocolate to the racy red and black fruit. Pretty full-bodied with fresh acidity and firm, dusty tannins. Tightly wound and long. 53% carmenere, 36% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot and 4% petit verdot. Better from 2026.

The 2022 Condor de Apalta is the first release of this cuvée. It’s a Carménère-based blend, with 36% split between Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Aged for one year in barrel, this fragrant red delivers notes of cherry and freshly crushed plum, along with a light cedar note at the core. Dry and juicy, its faintly bold character is elevated by fine-grained tannins. This inaugural wine aims to introduce a fresh approach to the wines of Clos Apalta—definitely one to follow.
