A serious, age-worthy Pauillac, the 2023 Château Pontet-Canet is based on 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new French oak, 35% amphora, and the rest in once-used barrels. Its deep purple hue is followed by a classic 2023 style in its aromatics and texture, with black cherries, ripe blue fruits, smoke, tobacco leaf, loamy earth, graphite, and beautiful floral nuances. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, pretty mouthfeel, remarkable elegance and purity, plenty of fine tannins, and a great finish. It already offers pleasure given its purity and vibrancy, but smart money will hide bottles for 5-7 years. It will see its 40th birthday in fine form. Drink 2030-2065.

The 2023 Pontet-Canet envelops the palate with silky tannins as hints of vibrant red-toned fruit, crushed flowers, spice and dried herbs fill out the layers. The 2023 is an exceptionally finessed Pontet-Canet. This is the first vintage in which the Grand Vin was blended early—in December following the harvest—as opposed to just before bottling, which had been the norm. That's one of many changes that resulted in a striking wine endowed with superb finesse. Tasted two times.

The 2023 Pontet Canet was bottled in mid-July 2025 and it was the first vintage that used air conditioning in the barrel cellar, also the first not using the large vats. There was also a reconfiguration of cooperages used during the ageing. It has a tightly knit bouquet with those dark cherries and blackcurrant scents noted previously, albeit with a subtle cassis scent emerging with time. This is nicely poised and more classical in style compared to previous vintages. Free sulphites here are around 30 mg/L. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly edgy tannins, more tension and mineralité tucked into this vintage than the 2022. Nicely composed towards the finish with a residual pepperiness that lingers, this is a fine Pontet Canet. Tasted three times including at the château.

A crunchy and vivid Pontet Canet with aromas of blueberries, blackberries, roses, violets and some sandalwood and graphite. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are long and caressing. Creamy texture, with crushed stones and light cement. Lots of energy at the end. Very approachable and long. Turns chewy and silky, with a bright and vivid finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. 52% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot. Drink in three or four years.

Pontet Canet zeigt sich mit der Subtilität und dem Sinn für Details, die man von ihm kennt, aber mit noch mehr Präzision.! Das Bouquet kündigt Tiefe an und offenbart einladende blumige sowie mineralische Nuancen unterlegt von erfrischenden fruchtigen Noten. Der Wein ist leicht cremig und überzeugt durch seinen seidigen Verlauf, der dann von kräftigen, gelassenen Tanninen abgelöst wird. Letztere positionieren sich exakt und verleihen Kraft auf feine und präzise Weise. Das Finale unterstreicht die Spannung und die Frische dank einer saftigen und salzigen Note. Ein präziser, detaillierter, kraftvoller und anhaltender Wein. Die Familie Tesseron und ihr Team haben sich dafür entschieden, den Regen abzuwarten und vorüberziehen zu lassen, bevor sie den Cabernet Sauvignon ernteten; eine weise und mutige Entscheidung. Nun ist es an uns, geduldig zu warten!

Blue fruits, sappy herbs, flowers, and subtle graphite notes all emerge from the 2023 Château Pontet-Canet, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Pauillac that has plenty of mid-palate flesh and texture, ripe, polished tannins, and outstanding length. It's incredibly well-balanced, has a round, layered mouthfeel, and a brilliant sense of salinity and minerality on the finish. It's going to need just short-term cellaring, but this is a gorgeous Pauillac. The blend is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, from healthy yields of 55 hectoliters per hectare.
