La Pointe - Pomerol 2023

The Estate:

The origins of Château La Pointe, in Pomerol, are uncertain. The earliest traces of it date back to the early 19th century, when this elegant Directoire-style building was built by the Chaperon family, an old Libourne family. With 22 ha of vineyards, the estate's configuration was very similar to that of today.

It was included in the first list of Pomerols in the 1868 edition of Cocks & Féret. The d'Arfeuille family bought it in 1941 and Stéphane, two generations later, managed it until 2007. At that time, it passed into the hands of insurer Generali. Since then, the estate has been managed by Éric Monneret, an agricultural engineer, with the support of Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, co-owner of Angélus and renowned consultant oenologist.

The Château La Pointe vineyard is located on the slope of the Château Trotanoy terrace, next to Château Nénin. Its terroir is divided into three main soil types: gravelly, clayey-gravelly and sandy on clay and gravel.

The 2023 Vintage: Escape Game, the new rules for viticulture

"Producing wine has become a succession of challenges that one needs to identify and overcome. The weather remains an important factor, ofcourse, but soil types, a plot-by-plot approach, vine- care practices, thededication of the team, their sense of observation, attention to detail andreactivity have all become even more important." Eric Monneret

Climatic conditions:

The mild, wet winter replenished the soil's water reserves. Budburst went smoothly, without excessive frosts. Regular rainfall in spring brought heavy mildew pressure to the vineyard, but the team managed the situation well. Flowering took place on May 22 under ideal weather conditions. The summer was sunny overall, with a few timely thunderstorms. The harvest took place between September 4 and 25 in remarkable conditions. Vinification revealed rich, balanced and fresh juices, with deep, bright colors. The aromatic characteristics of this vintage 2023 include red fruits, black fruits, violets and peony. This is an excellent Pomerol wine that will please everyone.

Sweet red berries with chocolate are what you initially notice in the perfume. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is bright, crisp, elegant, and juicy, with lift, energy, and most importantly, a refreshing touches of citrus and dark chocolate in the backend of the finish. Drink from 2026-2040. 91-93 Pts.

The 2023 La Pointe is a supple, fruity wine Pomerol endowed with good depth. Today, the aromatics are not pristine, but I suspect a less-than-perfect sample is the culprit. The style is one of forward fruit and supple, generous contours.

The 2023 La Pointe has a harmonious and generous bouquet with ample blackberry, black truffle and light cedar aromas. The oak is very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth in texture with fine tannins. This is not a deep or powerful La Pointe, but it's poised and commendably delineated on the finish. This Pomerol has an air of sophistication, and it will drink earlier than the 2022.

Aromas of dark berries and creamy new oak introduce the 2023 La Pointe, a medium-bodied, chewy and compact wine with a planky finish.

An aromatic wine with violets, oranges and blackberries. Similar flavors on the palate, with creamy tannins with a hint of terra-cotta. I like the quality of the tannins. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc.
