The 2023 Le Pin wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries and cassis mingled with hints of mint and rose petals, along with notions of pencil shavings and a touch of dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, pillowy and fleshy, it's rich but suave, with a seamless core of fruit framed by ripe, sweet tannins. Sensual and demonstrative, this will offer an especially broad drinking window.

Le Pin 2023, 100% Merlot, has a pH of 3.75 and was aged in 65% new oak barriques. Deep garnet-purple in color, after a couple of swirls the nose erupts with powerful notes of plum preserves and blackberry pie, giving way to a wonderfully opulent undercurrent of cinnamon stick, peonies, tar, and fertile loam, with exotic hints of star anise and cardamom. The medium- to full-bodied palate delivers firm, very fine-grained tannins with a refreshing line to frame the intense, bright black fruit and exotic spice flavors, finishing very long and minerally. A cerebral paradox that keeps you coming back.

That classic Le Pin sexiness emerges from the 2023 Château Le Pin in its spiced red fruits, dried flowers, camphor, and liquid violets. Based on 100% Merlot and brought up in 66% new French oak from Seguin Moreau and Taransaud, it's medium to full-bodied and flawlessly balanced, with ultra-fine tannins, beautifully integrated oak, and a gorgeous finish. It makes the most of this classic, ripe, balanced vintage. Give it just 4-5 years and drink over the following three decades. Drink 2029-2059.

The 2023 Le Pin is one of the wines of the vintage. It starts and ends there. Seamless, silky and remarkably pure, the 2023 is off-the-charts gorgeous. Everything is in perfect balance. The 2023 is not an especially opulent or dense Le Pin, rather it is a wine of remarkable completeness. Floral overtones, bright fruit and mid-weight structure are the signatures, and yet the 2023 has gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and the most cashmere-like tannins imaginable. Yields came in at a generous 39 hectoliters per hectare. New oak was 67%, a reduction from the 100% that was the norm a few years ago.

The 2023 Le Pin was bottled in early June after aging in two-thirds new oak with racking every four months, with no collage. “Nature gave us the balance,” remarked Guillaume Thienpont. It has a very well-defined and very pure bouquet that blossoms in the glass, black fruit, hints of dark chocolate manifesting with aeration. This is beautifully balanced, with a sensually creamy texture that just glides across the mouth. Very well-defined, lovely poise with impressive depth toward the finish, this a gorgeous Le Pin. Very persistent in the mouth, superb. [Interestingly, a decanted bottle demonstrated a tad more precision and race on the finish.]

Glorious aromas of violets, black olives, bark, graphite, orange peel and menthol. Medium-bodied with incredible complexity and intensity. Flavors of dark berries and dried herbs such as thyme, oregano, rosemary and some spearmint, with touches of oak, chocolate, foie gras and slightly exotic fruit at the end. A contemporary masterpiece that transcends it origins. Pure merlot. Drink or hold.

Der Grundsatz der Präzision ist in Le Pin seit langem bekannt. In diesem Jahrgang profitiert der Wein von dem gemäßigten, sehr Bordelaiser Klima mit Höhen und Tiefen, Kälte und Hitze, Regen und Höchsttemperaturen von 37°C. Die Symbiose zwischen reifen Noten und Frische ist perfekt. Das Bouquet zeigt auch Mineralik, die in Le Pin regelmäßig zu finden ist und die er den eisenhaltigen roten Kieselsteinen verdankt. Der Wein ist charmant im Auftakt und weist eine seidige, elegante Textur auf, die von samtenen Tanninen unterlegt ist. Letztere bringen ihre Kraft subtil zur Geltung und harmonieren mit dem lebhaften Charakter der Säure. Diese liefert die notwendige Energie, um diese Symbiose zu schaffen; das Ergebnis ist herausragend. Ein facettenreicher Le Pin, der sich subtil entfaltet, Kraft und Temperament zeigt aber vor allem Finesse... immer und immer wieder!

From a tiny parcel of deep, gravelly soils (2-3 meters) on top of clay, the 2023 Château Le Pin is all Merlot that today is raised in two-thirds new oak. This beauty has a gorgeous perfume of spicy red fruits, smoked tobacco, spicy oak, and savory flower and tobacco nuances. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Le Pin that has the château's sexy, seamless mouthfeel, solid ripeness, building, silky tannins, and a kiss of minerality on the finish. It shines for its purity and finesse and has plenty of classic Le Pin magic.
