Petit Figeac - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023

Figeac with a capital "A"

In 2023, the Manoncourt family celebrates its 130th vintage at Château Figeac. This year also marks the 2nd vintage since Château Figeac was classified as a 1er Grand cru Classé A.

Petit-Figeac, an initiation to the Figeac style

Hailing from the exceptional terroir of Château-Figeac, Petit-Figeac benefits from the same expertise same level of excellence as its elder sibling. With unquestionable appeal and a nice roundness in mouth, Petit-Figeac offers a very accessible profile and style while keeping the refined spirit of a great wine. It is a true introduction to the Figeac style.

The second wine of Château-Figeac appears since 1945 thanks to the visionary mark of its owner, Thierry Manoncourt (1917-2010). From the 2012 vintage onwards, the second Figeac wine takes the name of a historic plot in the heart of the estate: Petit-Figeac, asserts its elegant style and embodies the spirit of a great Saint-Emilion.

Climatic conditions

2023 was hot, dry and early vintage, folllowing a winter of abundant rainfall that replenished water reserves in our blue clay subsoil. In the face of extreme conditions, the combination of Château-Figeac's terroir and meticulous efforts of the team achieved a mastery of vineyard management.

The 2023 Petit-Figeac is matured in 30% new French oak barrels. This has a reticent nose that demands coaxing, eventually revealing red berry fruit, orange pith and light cedar scents emanating from the Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a keen line of acidity, tart red cherries, with a dab of iodine toward the finish. Lovely.
