The 2016 Petit-Figeac is a gorgeous, silky second wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet floral notes add freshness and lift to this expressive Saint-Émilion. In 2016, Petit-Figeac has a bit more Franc than usual which also contributes the wine's perfumed personality. This is impeccably done.

The 2016 Petit-Figeac is a blend of 41% Cabernet Franc, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with bold scents of warm black plums, black cherries and mulberries with touches of baking spices, potpourri, unsmoked cigars and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, it is very bright, elegant and minerally in the mouth, with plenty of vibrancy and freshness on the finish.

Drinking Window 2024 - 2045

Accounting for around one-third of the overall volume produced at the estate in 2016, this Petit Figeac is silky and rich, with tight cassis fruit and wonderfully silky notes. It's a sexy, deep, rather wonderful second wine, aged in 30% new oak, and it gives expression to the Pomerol side of St-Emilion.

The 2016 Petit-Figeac is dark, supple and inviting, with lovely midpalate depth and creaminess. It is exactly what a second wine should be: an introduction to the house style. In 2016, Petit-Figeac has more Cabernet Franc than is often the case, and this, along with the personality of the vintage, gives the wine vibrancy, freshness and energy. Very nicely done. Tasted two times.

Barrel Sample. The density of this wine is impressive. Powered by its velvety tannins and ample acidity, ripe black fruits thrust forward to offer both richness and intensity. The crisp, black currant flavor on the finish lifts the whole wine.

This has a fun core of blackberry and black currant fruit, picking up light spearmint and anise notes along the way. Twinge of apple wood on the finish.—J.M.

Refined and very pretty with chocolate, berries and hints of cedar. Medium body, very fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Very well done. Second wine of Figeac.
