The 2018 Petit Bocq is packed with blackberry, graphite, lavender and scorched earth. This is a decidedly potent, virile expression of Saint-Estèphe, with good depth, but also slightly burly tannins. There's a lot of substance here, and certainly plenty of character.

With a peppery accent to the red fruited nose, the wine is medium/full-bodied, round, and with a gorgeous sweetness to the red fruits, hints of herbs, tobacco leaf, cigar box and cedar in the finish. Give it 3-5 years in the cellar and enjoy it over the following 15 or more years with ease.

The 2018 Petit Bocq has quite an intense bouquet of blackberry and bilberry fruit, touches of iodine and peppermint developing with aeration; this is more backward than some its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins and plenty of tarry black fruit, backward and surly. This will need 3–4 years in bottle but it just lacks a little finesse and feels rather monotone on the finish.

Superbe bouquet qui allie si bien les notes fruitées, l'élevage et le terroir. En bouche le vin a du caractère grâce à son ampleur mais aussi son élégance. Les tanins sont imposants, suaves et atteignent leur amplitude en fin de bouche. Belle intensité aromatique, jusqu'en fin de bouche. Finale marquée par les baies noires, de manière intense et persistante.

Lovely aromas of walnuts, bark, dark berries and currants follow though to a full body with round, juicy tannins that are rich and layered. Long, flavorful finish. Very balanced for the vintage. Try after 2024.

Inky black cherry colour. Sweetly aromatic with black fruit and a hint of vanilla. Open and expressive on the nose. Firm velvet for texture and fresh on the finish. A balanced and complete wine and attractively fine-boned and dry on the finsih. (JH) Drink 2025-2033

The violet rim gives lots of freshness to the colour. It's a good quality wine, a little more rustic in its tannic structure than some but with a lovely sense of bounce and life. There's a floral character that appears through the mid-palate, and bouncy redcurrant and raspberry fruits.
