Penfolds BIN 389 - Cabernet Shiraz - 2015
The Bin 389 is often called "Poor Man Barn" or "Baby Barn" in part because the wine's components are aged in the same barrels as the previous Grange vintage.Built in 1960, by the legendary Max Shubert, the Bin 389 has helped forge a solid reputation for Penfolds among red wine enthusiasts, combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz, the Bin 389 also illustrates a judicious balance of fruit and oak. 2013 Weather Conditions: After a dry winter in southern Australia, similar to 2006, the vines ran out of water in early spring and became accustomed to dry conditions. Early bud burst and windy conditions in many areas during flowering reduced yields. The hot days in October, and November and early January, contributed to the early start of the 2013 harvest and a short harvest. The warm, dry conditions, coupled with below-average yields have yielded fruit with structural tannins, great flavor and a lot of intensity.
