Pedesclaux - Pauillac 2014

EX CHÂTEAU RELEASE

2014, THE 1ST VINTAGE OF THE NEW GRAVITY CELLAR

2014 was a succession of totally different seasons. Mild temperatures and plenty of rain (our weather station registered a rainfall excess of 87%) caused an early beginning of the vegetative cycle. Spring was mild, dry and sunny and therefore we were 15 days ahead of time. We kept these days until the end of the flowering. Due to a pretty cold summer, the veraison was spread until mid-August. An amount of sunshine higher than 20%, the average temperatures higher of 2°C than a normal vintage and less rain : that was September ! Since 1900, it was one of the warmest month! This Indian Summer allowed the berries to get more maturity and concentration, their volume declining up to 10% per week.

Fresh and engaging, with a vivid plum and cassis core spiked with anise details and backed by a lightly singed spice note on the finish. Shows a pure graphite edge. Approachable now. Drink now through 2024. 12,500 cases made.

A solid 2014 with firm and silky tannins that give the wine tightness and focus. Full body. Lovely fruit and a flavorful finish. Racy and focused. Drink after 2024.

The first wine made at the new cellar, the 2014 Château Pédesclaux checks in as 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot aged in 65% new French oak. It's a beautiful wine in the vintage that has awesome purity and precision in its black raspberries, cassis, crushed flowers, and hints of river rock-like minerality. Medium-bodied, silky, pure, incredibly elegant and seamless, with gorgeous purity and elegance, it's a knockout wine in the vintage.

The 2014 Pédesclaux has a pinched bouquet that even after aeration does not really shine, certainly not like it did just after bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit that sport quite a strong marine-like/brine influence, almost Saint Estèphe in style towards the tertiary, slightly brutish finish that needs a couple of years to calm down. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2014 Pédesclaux has a tightly wound bouquet with redcurrant and crushed strawberry fruit, cedar and cigar box aromas filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, plenty of black fruit laced with cedar and black pepper, though it does not quite deliver the complexity that I think the 2015 will on the finish. Still, it is a very capable vintage from the rejuvenated château that is certainly going places in the same way that Pontet-Canet did in the 1990s. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

The aromas of blackcurrants, oyster shell and blackberries are impressive. Full-bodied, chewy and rich — showing a fantastic depth of fruit and intensity. Extremely long and beautiful. Needs four to five years to soften. First vintage from the new winery at this estate. Try in 2022.

The 2014 Pédesclaux is a very pretty, open-knit wine. Succulent dark cherry, mint, plum, smoke and leather, along with silky tannins, give the wine its soft contours and pleasant, up-front personality. The 2014 is a bit one-dimensional but quite attractive. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later. The blend is 53 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 47 % Merlot. In 2014, the harvest took place between September 30 and October 17 at Pédesclaux's brand-new facility, which features state-of-the-art equipment. The 2014 saw 60 days of skin contact - very long by any measure - with malolactic fermentation in barrel.

Barrel Sample. From an up and coming property in Pauillac, this wine shows firm tannins and lively acidity on the palate, with a fruit kick on the finish.

Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, new leather and cedar meld together in the 2014 Pédesclaux. Silky, supple and expressive even in its youth, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. The high percentage of Merlot in the blend gives Pédesclaux lovely juiciness and much of its soft, easygoing personality. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. Tasted two times.

Tobacco, cedar, licorice and cassis on the nose, this wine has smooth tannins, freshness, and the polished finish of dark plums. The wine was produced from a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. 89-91 Pts

The Château Pédesclaux 2014, what will surely be known in future as the "fishtank" château given that it is now encased in glass, is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot aged in 60% new oak. It has a precise and well defined bouquet with minerally black fruit infused with graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit and that hints of graphite again. The acidity is well judged and there is a sense of refinement and class on the finish. This estate has been threatening to make a great wine...this might be it.

Amazing quality for here. Best wine ever. Superb balance of fruit and ripe tannins with velvety texture, yet this is tightly grained and luscious. What length.

Deep glowing crimson. Very rich glowing fruit on the front palate. Fine and good balance. Sinewy and a tiny bit stringy on the end. But correct and reasonably satisfying. Could be GV.  Drink 2019-2029

17/20 2022 – 2036

Distinctive, with a ripe cassis and boysenberry core, lined with dried anise hints and backed by ample singed apple wood notes, though this stays very polishedoverall. An extroverted style.
