The 2023 Pavie is deep garnet-purple in color. It storms out of the glass with powerful notes of wild blueberries, juicy black plums, and Bing cherries, opening out to scents of tar, black olives, lilacs, and coffee beans with a touch of crushed rocks. The full-bodied palate vibrates with energetic black fruit and earthy layers, framed by very firm, very ripe, grainy tannins and amazing tension, finishing with epic length and depth. Breathtaking! The blend is 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, with pH 3.66.

Ripe black fruits, graphite, crushed stone, chocolate, and some truffly earth nuances all define the 2023 Château Pavie, a gorgeous wine that's certainly up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Based on 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 20 months in 72% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied, with a concentrated, layered mouthfeel and a great finish. The purity, balance, and elegance here are absolutely brilliant. Hide bottles for 4-5 years if you can, and it will shine for three decades. Drink 2030-2060.

The 2023 Pavie is fabulous, just as it was en primeur. Vibrant, deep and layered, the 2023 is bursting with energy. This is one of the most refined, elegant wines I have ever tasted at Pavie. Even with all of that tension, the 2023 has plenty of the rich, textured fruit and palate presence that are such signatures of the house style.

The 2023 Pavie was picked at 32.76 hl/ha and raised in 72% new oak. This has a cohesive bouquet with black cherries, iodine, violet and just a touch of tinned prune in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins that frame mainly black fruit mixed with vanilla pod, orange rind and cracked black pepper. Quite structured toward the spicy finish, this will require at least five years in bottle just to polymerize the tannins on the end.

Such perfume on the nose, it’s almost intoxicating, the Merlot is so expressive, almost explosive on the nose. Floral, savoury, spiced. Round, glossy, bright and intense - all the markings of a great wine here. Fleshy tannins, chewy but so juicy at the same time, underpinned by salty, stony flavours plus fresh mint, dried herbs and a touch of liquorice. Great mouthfeel and texture. No doubt about ripeness, but this really retains joy, brightness and fun. One of the best Pavies. Excellent, flavours linger for a long long time. Elegant, precise, finessed.

A bold wine. Perfumed aromas of violets, sandalwood, blackberries, blueberries and graphite. Full-bodied but not overpowering, with lots of fruit, juicy tannins and a powerful finish. Chewy. 51% merlot, 32% cabernet franc and 17% cabernet sauvignon. Need five or six years to come around. Try after 2030.

Pavie 2023 verläuft mit außergewöhnlicher Treffsicherheit, reibungslos, auf einem Pfad, der sich entlang des Gaumens in einen Boulevard verwandelt. Er beginnt eher schlank und gewinnt im Laufe seines Weges an Dichte und Energie. Die Pluralität und Subtilität des Bouquets unterstreicht die Aufmerksamkeit und den Sinn für Details, die Pavie 2023 entgegengebracht wurden. Es sind keine Exzesse zu beobachten, weder bei der Reife der Fruchtnoten noch beim Ausbau. Ganz im Gegenteil, das Terroir hat die Oberhand über das Bouquet. Ein sehr gut verständlicher Wein, der durch seine Finesse und seine Fähigkeit, sich von einer schärferen, subtileren Seite zu profilieren, beeindruckt. Die Symbiose zwischen den kräftigen, lieblichen und prägnanten Seiten ist sehr gut gelungen. Ein hervorragender Wein!

The Grand Vin 2023 Château Pavie is based on 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 72% new oak. It's a more inward, serious effort that has a layered bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, spicy oak, spring flowers, and smoke tobacco. This carries to a full-bodied 2023 revealing a beautiful sense of minerality, ample mid-palate depth, and a gorgeous finish. It shows the more elegant, vibrant style of the vintage while still being classic Pavie. If anything, it reminds me slightly of the château's 2001.
