Bright full ruby.  Vibrant aromas of blackberry, blueberry and licorice are complicated by minerals and herbs.  Juicy, pure and penetrating, with high-pitched blackberry, dark plum and floral flavors enlivened by harmonious acidity.  Finishes with tight but smooth tannins and good sappy persistence.  This really is a notch above Simard and Fonbel, two other wines made by the Ausone team.  Serious wine. (89(+?) points)

Owned by the Vauthier family, this wine receives much of the same attention as the historic Ausone vineyard. Open-knit with lots of ripe black cherry and black currant fruit as well as crisp acids, a hint of chalky minerality, and a medium-bodied finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.

This shows a lively character, with lots of dark-fruit and citrus character. Full body, chewy, creamy tannins and an intense finish. Try after 2016.

O= 2017 G= 15 ans

(an 80/20 blend of merlot and cabernet franc; 35 h/h): Opaque purple-ruby. Brooding nose of cassis, minerals and fresh herbs. Bright and fresh in the mouth, with a very juicy, almost tart blackcurrant flavor complicated by cocoa and coffee. Finishes spicy, fresh and persistent, with smooth tannins. You can tell that this is made from calcareous clay soils.

Fine fruit and tannins but a rather rapier-edged acidity leaves a hard note. A little too vif but should age. Drink 2017-2026.

In many vintages this estate, owned by Ausone’s Alain Vauthier, produces a sleeper of the vintage. The dark blue/purple-colored 2011 Moulin St.-Georges exhibits lots of raspberry, charcoal, truffle and incense characteristics, medium body, good purity, crunchy acids and a spicy, layered, authoritative finish. Consume it over the next decade.

Volume un peu vif, pas aussi gourmand que dans les millésimes précédents mais c'est fin et racé. Long.

The Moulin Saint-Georges is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc picked at 35hl/ha and will spend around 18 months in new oak. It has a floral bouquet emanating from the ripe Cabernet Franc, hints of cassis and blackcurrant complemented by subtle crushed stone aromas with aeration. It is well defined and focused, the oak deftly assimilated into the wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely opening of vibrant, red berry fruit with hints of truffle and dried meats. It is very well balanced with svelte tannins and substance from start to finish. This is a supremely accomplished Saint Emilion from Alain Vauthier: feminine and...nubile. Tasted April 2012

Drink 2017-2024
80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 18 months in new oak. Cedary cassis nose, plenty of oak in evidence. Slight minty note. Soft, thick tannins. Rounded but finishes a bit dry and not a lot of flesh in the middle. Then a rush of juice on the finish. Not integrated at the moment. (JH)

This wine is polished with lifted dark berry fruit and amazing freshness. There is a wonderful depth to the flavours and a richness in the mid palate. Full bodied, generous wine - while approachable this is a serious wine with velvety tannins. Very long length. A wine from the Vauthier family.

A delicious wine, with ripe plum and berry flavors. It pairs acidity and firm tannins with its fruit. —R.V

A little lean but some pretty blueberry and spice character. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish.
