Juicy red with dark berry, chocolate, hazelnut, walnut and berry. Full and rather chunky. It’s a little old-school, but impressive. Needs time to soften and relax. Try after 2026.

The 2020 Montviel is very nicely done. Juicy and inky to the core, Montviel offers tons of charm and sheer deliciousness. Raspberry jam, spice, rose petal, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco build as this silky, opulent Pomerol shows off its considerable allure. There is a wonderful sense of immediacy to the 2020. It's one of the best recent vintages I can remember tasting.

Lots of ripe red, black, and blue fruits as well as notes of damp earth and violets emerge from the glass of the 2020 Château Montviel, a medium-bodied, elegant barrel sample with spicy floral nuances, plenty of chalky minerality, light tannins, and a great finish. I love its balance as well as its purity of fruit

The 2020 Montviel is very closed on the nose and only reluctantly reveals dense blackberry and bilberry scents, plus a very slight toffee-ish element in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit laced with black pepper and sage. The grainy finish demonstrates just the right amount of dryness. Fine, but give it 2–3 years in bottle.

Good focus, a little light through the mid palate with some raspberry leaf aromatics but has an easy charm to it, and has the supple texture and fruit focus that is easy to enjoy. Good-value Pomerol.

Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Montviel needs a little swirling to unlock scents of stewed plums and baked blackberries, plus hints of garrigue, tilled soil and tobacco leaf with a hint of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers pure, juicy black and blue fruits, supported by soft, rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a red berry lift.
