The Wine Palate
byLisa Perrotti-Brownthe4/9/2026
The 2023 Marquis d’Alesme is deep garnet-purple in color. Gentle, fragrant notes of lavender, red roses, and baking spices slowly emerge from the glass, leading to a core of red currant jelly and kirsch, plus a touch of mossy tree bark. The light- to medium-bodied palate reveals an impressive intensity of perfumed red berry flavors, with a racy backbone and firm, fine-grained tannins, finishing long and spicy. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, with a pH of 3.60. It was aged in 45% new French oak barrels.
